33-year-old defensive midfielder Borja Fernandez has signed for Basque club Eibar to a six month contract. Fernandez last played for Indian Super League outfit Atletico de Kolkata making 16 appearances and finding the back of the net once. He'll add a great presence in front of the back four and his experience will go a long way for the tiny club as they try to remain in the top half of the table - which would be a fantastic feat.
The former Real Madrid youth product has not quite lived up to the billing of his expectations and quickly fell off the radar as he only made 16 appearances in a year long loan to Real Mallorca back in 2005-06 campaign. He played the next four seasons for Valladolid and made nearly 130 league appearances. Fernandez failed to find any kind of consistant playing time at Getafe before 2010-2014 as he put on the shirt a mere 57 times before finally joining the Indian Super League club.
