Villarreal host Getafe in the first leg of the Copa del Rey quarter-final on Wednesday and Marcelinho's side will be looking to continue their good run of form.
Villarreal are unbeaten in their last fifteen games in all competitions and will be expected to beat a struggling Getafe side who are currently fifteenth in La Liga. The Copa has been a welcome distraction for Getafe who have failed to win in their last nine league games. Getafe reached this stage of the Copa thanks to wins over two top flight sides. Eibar were beaten home and away giving Getafe a 5-1 aggregate win before Almeria were saw off 2-1 on aggregate after a 1-1 draw away and a 1-0 win at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
Villarreal reached the quarter-finals thanks to a 5-1 aggregate win over Segunda B side, Cadiz before a 1-0 home win and a 2-2 draw away saw them past David Moyes’, Real Sociedad.
There has been a lot of squad rotation in this years Copa with sides preferring to keep their starters for league action but with a place in the semi-finals at stake one might expect to see teams put their strongest eleven on the field but both sides have left players out of the match day squads.
Villarreal have left Ikechukwu Uche out of their eighteen man squad and they are also without Mateo Musacchio who is suspended and the injured duo, Bojan Jokic and Adrian Marin. For Getafe, they will be without Vicente Guaita, Mehdi Lacen, Angel Lafita, Alexis, Juan Valera, Michel and Baba as they look to end Villarreal's unbeaten run.
The winners of this will meet either Barcelona or Atletico Madrid in the semi-final and while that will be a difficult draw it’s a semi-final and both sides will believe they can progress. Villarreal will be favourites to reach that semi-final but in a cup tie anything can happen and Getafe will be out to cause an unlikely upset.
