The game was dubbed a "six pointer" as both sides currently find themselves in the middle of a relegation scrap. Throughout the scrappy opening exchanges, both Almeria and Getafe had chances to take the lead. In the ninth minutes Mauro Dos Santos had a header flicked onto the post by Alvaro Vazquez, who then went down the other end and had his one-on-one attempt saved by Julian.

The scrapiness continued for the majority of the half and both sides were determined to open the scoring. Edgar and Wellington Silva caused the Getafe defence all sorts of problems with their pace and work rate, but neither could capitalise to break the deadlock. Meanwhile the visitors threatened with Diego Castro, but much like Edgar and Wellington, he was unable to find a way through.

Half-time quickly approached and it appeared as though the game would remain in the balance at 0-0. However the hosts notched themselves in front thanks to an Edgar goal. Israeli striker, Tomer Hemed played the ball in behind the Getafe defence and Edgar latched onto it inside the area. The winger confidently finished past Codina with a low shot.

Despite the one goal lead they possessed, the home side didn't seem to be confident holding such a slender advantage. Within ten minutes of the restart, Almeria thought they had doubled their lead. Michel had bundled the ball over the line after reacting quickly from a header that hit the post. Unfortunately for the hosts, the assistant referee had raised his flag for offside. The goal was swiftly ruled out, even though replays showed that the assistant had made the wrong decision and Michel was indeed onside.

However Almeria then had a fortunate refereering decision go their way shortly afterwards. Sergio Escuerdo picked up a second yellow for a rash challenge on Wellington not long after the hour mark. The left-back's sending off ultimately signalled game over, as it would become almost impossible for Getafe to come back into the match with a man down.

The game took a late twist as Almeria's recent goalscoring hero, Tomer Hemed, picked up a second yellow card of his own with ten minutes to play. Despite Getafe doing little to suggest there was a route back into the game for them, the dismissal of Hemed meant that their man disadvantage was restored for the final minutes of the match.

The visitors continued to create goalscoring opportunities, meaning that Almeria's defence was largely untroubled during the second half. Juan Ignacio Martinez's team picked up a valuable three points in this huge relegation clash, meaning that they have now moved out of the relegation zone for the time being.
