Atletico Madrid played their rivals Real Madrid in the Madrid derby for the 6th time in all competitions as the match without the home side being unable to lose the previous 5 matches. Many expectations were on both sides as Atletico had a strong side on paper while Real Madrid were looking to cope with the loss of Sergio Ramos and James Rodriguez but the return of Cristiano Ronaldo from suspension.

The match started even from both sides but it didn't take long for the home side to score. In the 14th minute, a fantastic cross is whipped into the box from Juanfran and Mandzukic eventually collects before teeing up Tiago, who squeezes a shot under Iker Casillas from the edge of the box with an awful mistake from the Spainard goalkeeper. They didn't finish as 4 minutes later, the hosts double their lead. Siqueira goes on a marauding run into the box and hits the byline before chipping a cross to the front post, and the newly introduced Saul Niguez sends the ball home with a sensational bicycle kick to give an amazing start to the Colchoneros.

The away side also had a few chances as well. Welshman Gareth Bale popped up down the right wing and gets the better of Siqueira before dashing inside. However, the final product is not good enough as his cross with the outside of his left foot near enough goes out for a throw in on the far side in the 38th minute and it standed as 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, the hosts had another chance in the hands of Antoine Griezmann in the 59th minute as he got past the Madrid defence and fires a wicked right-footed strike at goal giving Casillas the chance to save and had another chance 2 minutes later with an overhead kick. Third time was the charm as Arda cut in from the right wing totally unopposed and dinks a cross to the back post for Saul giving Griezmann the chance to smash it home from close range.

Atletico finished everything up in the last minute to complete the humilination of Los Blancos as Tiago slides a pass down the right wing and Torres collects before whipping a brilliant cross into the box where Croatian Mario Mandzukic loses his marker before bulleting a header into the corner to give Atletico their 6th result and making them undefeated so far this season against their city rivals.

Atletico will travel to Celta Vigo next week while Real Madrid will look to continue to get back on track as they host Deportivo de la Coruña.
