Atletico Madrid continue their march for a Champions League place, with a 2-0 home win against David Moyes’ Real Sociedad side. Two goals in the opening 10 minutes was all it took for Atletico Madrid to brush away Sociedad, in a very quite encounter at the Caldron.

The game got off to a blinding start when Arda Turan thought he had beaten Geronimo Rulli in the 1st minute, but his half volley smacked off the post, and the danger was cleared for a corner, however, Atletico Madrid took the lead from the resulting corner. Koke whipped the ball in, and Real Sociedad defender, Mikel Gonzalez, flicked the ball into his own net with his head, to give the hosts an early lead.

Antoine Griezmann made it 2-0 to Atletico 7 minutes later when Koke fired from range, Rulli did well to parry the shot, but Griezmann burst onto the scene, to score past his former team in the 10th minute. Sociedad started to find their feet after Atletico’s early goals, Gonzalo Castro managed to slip by Jesus Gamez on the edge of the penalty box, but his shot was well saved by Jan Oblak to keep the visitors at bay. Koke almost made it 3-0 when in the 39th minute, the Spaniards brilliant cross almost beat Rulli, but the ball bounced off the crossbar, saving the young Argentina keeper from embarrassment.

Mario Suarez had the first chance of the second half when in the 55th minute, a drawn out Atletico play on the edge of the penalty box resulted in Griezmann playing the ball across the penalty box to find the central midfielder, but Suarez’s half volley sailed over the bar. Siqueira came close when the full back lingered around after a goal mouth scramble, but his whipping shot was deflected by Elustondo, and out for a corner. Oblak was finally called into action in the 87th minute when a Prieto free kick from 25-yards out was flying towards the top right hand corner of the Atletico goal, but Oblak sprang into action, and the young keeper, pulled off an incredible save, to insure he kept a clean sheet, in this quite affair.
