Rayo Vallecano announced on Friday that midfielder Raul Baena has signed a new contract with the club until 2017.

Baena's contract was due to expire at the end of June and Rayo will be delighted that he has agreed to stay at the club especially after Alberto Bueno agreed to join FC Porto on a free transfer.

Baena has been at Rayo since 2013 after spending six years with Espanyol where he made over 100 appearances between the first team and the 'B' side. Baena had spent four years with Barcelona's youth teams prior to his move across the city to Espanyol.

The Andalusian born midfielder made 28 appearances in La Liga this season and scored two goals for Rayo as Paco Jemez's side finished the season in 11th place and fourteen points clear of the relegation zone. The club will be looking to build on that next season and they will be better placed to do so now that Baena has agreed to stay with the club.
