Luis Enrique insistent that Munir must stay

Despite his lack of playing time recently, Luis Enrique has told Barcelona that youth product Munir El Haddadi must not be allowed to leave this summer, not even on loan.

Luis Enrique has told Barcelona that Munir El Haddadi must not leave the club this summer, according to Marca.

There is a clause in Munir's contract that states he must be involved with the first team squad if he is to remain at Barcelona, and with the B team having just been relegated to the third tier of Spanish football, the young forward will be concerned about playing at such a low level.

Munir got off to a flying start to the season, with Enrique including him regularly in the absence of the suspended Luis Suarez

His performances caught the eye of many and Barcelona proceeded to award him a new contract with plenty of upgrades on his previous youth one. One significant change in the new deal saw his release clause rise from €12 million to €35 million, deterring potential suitors, with Arsenal and Chelsea in particular rumoured to be keeping tabs on the 19-year-old.

Limited action since January

However, since Suarez's return, Munir has found playing time hard to come by, seeing just 104 minutes of senior football, with his last action coming in January.

Ajax are another club who remain interested in securing the services of the Spanish international on loan though, and they have had a temporary offer tabled all season for Munir, which remains now, going into the summer window.

It is believed to be this interest that has forced Enrique to tell the owners of Barcelona to keep Munir at the club.

Still, competition for places remains fierce and it is difficult to see how the manager can ensure the player gets game time. Lionel Messi, Neymar and Suarez are his first choice front three, and rightly so, whilst Pedro, who just signed a new deal with the club, is their usual back-up and impact sub.

It will certainly be interesting to see how Enrique involves Munir in the side if he wants him to remain, but, in case the manager changes his mind, Barcelona are believed to have told Ajax's Director of Football, and former Barcelona player, Marc Overmars that Munir will be offered to them first if he is to leave Camp Nou, whether that be temporarily or permanently.
