It was a battle between two teams at the bottom of the table in Malaga and Getafe but in the end, the hosts Getafe came out with the victory.
The win helped them jump all the way to 12th in the La Liga table. After losing their first three games in La Liga to start the season, it was a huge win for Getafe.
Getafe strike early
Getafe got off a very fast start when Serbian striker Stefan Scepovic's header found the back of the net for the Azulones. This goal was the result of great counterattacking football from Getafe as Scepovic received great service from Victor Rodriguez. The cross was right in the middle of the box and it led to the only goal of the game for Getafe. He had another chance when he was in close again, but his shot went wide in the 26th minute.
Malaga came close to equalizing when Ricardo Horta found himself with space in the box but fired the shot wide of the goal. It was a poor half from Malaga as they only managed to fire two shots at the goal. But they were both poor efforts from Horta as he fired wide on both efforts, one long distance and one inside the box. It is shocking to see that after four games, this Malaga side still hasn't scored. Although they have only given up 2 goals, they haven't scored any this season and that is a cause for concern.
Malaga put on the pressure in the second half
With only two shots on the Getafe goal, Malaga had to come out with guns blazing in the second half. That is exactly what they did, taking 11 shots in the second half. The only problem is that only three were on target.
Malaga had some very good chances as the time began to close in on 90 minutes and they were getting desperate. Charles had a great chance in the 76th minute, but his shot from just outside the box went off target. But Malaga kept pouring on the pressure and had once last chance when Adnane Tighadouini stepped into the box and fired one that was saved by Vicente Guaita and that was the last chance for Malaga.
Relief for Getafe and pain for Malaga
It was a crucial three points for Getafe as they had lost their first three games to start off the season. They will look to push up the point total to 6 points when they face Villarreal on Wednesday.
It was another frustrating loss for Malaga as they still haven't scored this season. As of right now, they are in the relegation zone and although they will probably not be relegated, the slow start has to concern management and the fans.
