A huge weekend of boxing that sees four cards being televised in the UK gets underway on Thursday night with a welterweight bout from Hialeah, Florida between Fredrick Lawson and Breidis Prescott.

Lawson (23-0-0)-0-0 has been earning a reputation as a bit of a knockout specialist with twenty stoppage wins in his twenty-three fights but in truth he has only fought seven fighters with winning records. His most impressive win to date was against Ray Narh but Narh has lost five of his last six fights and is no longer the fighter he was. Lawson is currently ranked twelfth with the IBF and he will be looking to start adding some bigger names to his list of victories in order to earn a potential title shot against Kell Brook who is the current IBF title holder.

Prescott (27-6-0) doesn’t come into this fight in good form having lost four of his last seven fights but he does have some good wins to his name. The most memorable was his first round stoppage of Amir Khan back in 2008. In the fight before beating Khan in Manchester he had another impressive win against current WBA World Lightweight champion, Richar Abril who is due to defend his title against Derry Matthews in Liverpool on the 18th April. Since those wins Prescott has lost to some top class fighters including Kevin Mitchell, Miguel Vazquez and Terence Crawford. Prescott has consistently fell short at the top level but he has only been knocked out once in his career and will be a good test for Lawson.

On the undercard there are eight undefeated fighters including Rances Barthelemy (21-0-0), Kamil Laszczyk (19-0-0), Michael Seals (18-0-0) and Yasmany Consuegra (16-0-0). There are no belts at stake on the card but with so many fighters looking to move towards future title fights it promises to be a good night in Hialeah.
