Former world champions John Higgins and Graeme Dott won on Sunday to secure passage to the last sixteen of the World Snooker Championships.

Higgins, a four time champion, secured a comfortable 10-5 win over world number seventeen Robert Milkins. Higgins came into tonight's session 6-3 up and quickly won the first two frames to go 8-3 up but Milkins won the next two to go into the interval 8-5 behind. Higgins ruled out any hopes Milkins had of a comeback after the interval by securing victory in the next two frames including a 106 break in the final frame.

Dott joined his fellow Scot in the last sixteen with a 10-8 win over world number seven Ricky Walden to set up a clash with the winner of Stuart Bingham and Robbie Williams. Dott was 7-6 down at one stage but won four of the next five frames to secure the win.

Anthony McGill made it three Scot's in the last sixteen with a thrilling victory over Stephen Maguire. McGill looked to be in for an easy night when he opened up a 9-5 lead but Maguire showed some great grit to battle back to take the game to a deciding frame. Many would have expected Maguire to go through in such circumstances but McGill managed to pull off the dream frame and secured victory with a 122 break.

Hong Kong's Marco Fu joined the Scottish trio in the last sixteen with a 10-6 win over Jimmy Robertson. Fu came into today's play 5-4 up and lost the first frame before taking control of the game and winning five of the next six frames to cruise to victory.

Also on Sunday Barry Hawkins and Neil Robertson secured big leads in the opening sessions of their first round matches. Hawkins leads Matthew Selt 7-2 and former champion Robertson leads Jamie Jones 6-2. Hawkins (10am) and Robertson (2.30pm) will be expected to secure victory when they finish their matches tomorrow.

Monday will also see Stuart Bingham and Robbie Williams play their full match with sessions at 10am and 7pm as well as the opening session of Ding Junhui v Mark Davis (2.30pm) and Ali Carter v Alan McManus (7pm).
