History was made when Kyren Wilson beat Anthony Hamilton, in this year’s China Open qualifiers, when between them they made six consecutive centuries.

Wilson beat Hamilton 5-3 with the world ranked number 20 making four centuries with Hamilton’s contribution of two.

A long-held record falls

The previous record of consecutive centuries was five which was made in the 2003 British Open final between Ronnie O’Sullivan and Stephen Hendry, that record was matched in the 2009 Masters between Stephen Maguire and Neil Robertson.

The reigning Shanghai Masters Champion started the scoring off in frames two and three with breaks of 103 and 108 to lead the match 2-1 before Hamilton levelled with an impressive break of 137.  Having surprisingly won the 2015 Shanghai Masters when he defeated Judd Trump 10-9 in a stunning final, Wilson has risen through the rankings to his career high of 22.

A break of 125 was made by the 24-year-old but Hamilton hit back with a break of 123.

Wilson then went on to break the record in the penultimate frame of the match with a break of 100.

“It’s the best match I’ve played in by far.'  Wilson told World Snooker, and he admitted that both players ‘were willing each other on” to score century breaks, and didn’t realise “six in a row was a record until after the match.

It very nearly was seven consecutive century breaks but the world ranked number 20 missed the last red in the final frame which left him feeling “gutted.”

Looking forward to the Shoot Out

Later this week the Snooker Shoot Out starts at the Hexagon in Reading for the first time.

All of the top 64 players will be playing to be crowned the winner at the end of the weekend as well as the £32’000 prize fund.

“I really enjoy the Shoot Out, its great fun and I want to go even further this time,” added Wilson
