Romania and Italy have had varying fortunes at the 2015 Rugby World Cup ahead of their meeting at Sandy Park on Sunday.

Each side has won once and lost twice ahead of their final games at this tournament, with third place in Pool D the reward for the winner.

Italy were disappointing in their opening loss to France, were outplayed for large parts of their win over Canada before coming close to shocking Ireland at the Olympic Park thanks to the return of influential leader Sergio Parisse

Sunday's opponents, Romania put up valiant efforts in losses to Ireland and France, before overturning the biggest deficit in Rugby World Cup history to beat Canada in Leicester, to set up an exciting battle against Italy in their Pool D finale.

The tier 2 nations have been extremely impressive over the last month, and a win for Romania over Italy will only increase hipes of an extended Six Nations championship, which may include the Romanians as well as Georgia, another of the World Cup's success stories.

Italians must do without Parisse again

After returning to the starting lineup for their must-win game against Ireland, Sergio Parisse has been left out of the matchday 23, with the number eight clearly not at full-fitness.

His place in the side goes to Alessandro Zanni, with Tommaso Benvenuti the only other change from the Ireland game, with the Bristol centre taking the place of the injured Gonzalo Garcia

Lock-forward Quintin Geldenhuys captains the side in the absence of Parisse, where he is joined in the second-row by Newcastle's Josh Furno

Once more, Edoardo Gori and Tommaso Allan take the half-back spots, with Michele Campagnaro playing at Sandy Park for the first time ahead of his move to the Exeter Chiefs

Two-try hero Macovei banned for final match

Romania have been handed a major setback ahead of the Italian game, with captain Mihai Macovei forced to miss the game, after being found guilty of a dangerous tackle in the win over Canada.

Just like Parisse, Macovei is an important leader for his nation, with the Colomiers player having scored both tries in the comeback win in their last game, as well as leading the tackle charts for the whole competition to date.

His place in the side goes to Daniel Carpo in one of two changes to the side, with the other seeing scrum-half Valentin Calafeteanu come in at the expense of Florin Surugiu
