Great Britain are world champions! Of tennis!

15:38: Some rather odd fireworks in the stadium right now, in time with the music playing....

15:35: "Last but not least, to all of the British fans. I know it's going to be tough going into work tomorrow or Tuesday...whenever you make it!", Smith continues. "See you in Birmingham," he concludes, before being drenched by as many water bottles as his players can find.

15:34: Leon Smith paying tribute to the ITF, the sponsors, and the Belgian team.

15:33: "I'm not really prepared for this, I actually can't believe this is happening. I want to thank all the players for such a massive effort, not just this year, but for the years that have led to this," says Leon Smith. Talking to the fans, he says "we couldn't do this without you, we really couldn't, you've been amazing!"

15:30: That trophy is HUGE! The whole team lift the smallest part of it aloft to pyrotechnics in the stadium. They don't look like they can quite believe it...

15:28: Great Britain receiving their trophies, each player being enthusiastically announced by the stadium announcer

15:27: Players who contributed for either team throughout the year have arrived on court, and the Belgians have received their trophies

15:25: The officials receiving their awards first.

15:23: The Belgium team return to the court for the ceremony, closely followed by "world champions...Greeeaaaat Britaiiiin!"

15:20: Confirmation that the dead rubber will not be played, Ruben Bemelmans and Kyle Edmund can have a rest.

15:19: Trophy presentation coming up...

Murray had a hand in 11 of the 12 points Great Britain won this year. For all the accusations of them being a one-man team, it's important to remember that James Ward's win over John Isner in March is the only reason they reached even the quarterfinals.

Andy Murray: "I never thought we'd have the opportunity to do this, I can't believe we did it!"

"It's amazing, as good a feeling as I could possibly imagine," Leon Smith says. He's been at the helm for one of sport's most remarkable turnarounds, from almost being rrelegated to the bottom tier of the competition to winning the whole thing in just five years.

It was a superb final point, Goffin looking to have won it multiple times before eventually being beaten by a classic Murray shot - the lob.

Murray collapses to the ground in delight, and the whole Great Britain team sprint on court to pile on top of him. Britain's first Davis Cup win since 1936. 1936!

GREAT BRITAINWIN THE DAVIS CUP!

14:58: GB 6-3 7-5 5-3 Belgium*
Murray opens the game with yetanother return winner off Goffin's second serve. He's two points away after Goffin nets a forehand...the Belgian pulls one point back after punishing a passive Murray shot with his forehand, but then hits his forehand wide to give Murray two match points...Goffin misses his first serve...Murray nets! One more match point to come...

14:52: GB 6-3 7-5 5-3 Belgium*
Goffin's backhand has found its range, as he hits a nice winner cross court. Almost immediately his backhand misses again though, but when Murray nets it's 15-30. A big serve again helps Murray out, and Goffin misses with another forehand to bring up game point for Murray. The Belgian hits a stunning winner on the run down the line for deuce, but then nets an attempted drop shot to give Murray Advantage. Ace! Murray holds, and is one game away...

14:48: *GB 6-3 7-5 4-3 Belgium
A wild backhand miss from Goffin opens up the game, and Murray climbs all over the Belgian's second serve yet again to move up 0-30. Another backhand miss gives Murray three break points...and his old habit of pummeling away Goffin's second serve does the trick. Murray breaks.

14:41: GB 6-3 7-5 3-3 Belgium*
A close miss down the line puts Murray down at 0-15, and some nice work at the net from Goffin keeps it close at 30-all. Ace! But then a backhand sliced into the net makes it deuce, and a big forehand into the corner brings up a break point. Murray's serve helps him out again to get back to deuce, and that, followed by an ace, followed by a missed Goffin forehand gives Murray the hold.

14:36: *GB 6-3 7-5 2-3 Belgium
Goffin begins his service game with a huge forehand winner, and after missing to make it 15-all, forces a Murray error with more big forehands into his forehand corner. A backhand winner seals an excellent game for the Belgian

14:28: GB 6-3 7-5 1-2 Belgium*
Goffin gives Murray a taste of his own medicine to go up 0-15, but misses badly with a backhand to bring it back to 15-all. It's still tight at 30-all, and controversy strikes as Goffin thinks Pascal Maria has spotted the wrong mark from Murray's serve. He hits long, and then into the net to give Murray the game.

14:24: *GB 6-3 7-5 1-2 Belgium
First return winner we've seen in a little while from Murray, but he misses again in the next point. A classic Murray drop shot-lob combo gets him up 15-30, and a spectacular backhand pass gives him two immediate break-back points. He only needs the first, Goffin spraying a forehand wide.

14:19: GB 6-3 7-5 0-2 Belgium*
Murray hits a backhand long to slip 0-15 down, and Goffin attacks the net to extend his lead to 0-30. Ace from Murray which looked a little wide, before another unexpected miss brings up two break points. Goffin returns the favour, a wild forehand giving back one of the break chances,  but Murray nets on another forehand, and Goffin has the break!

14:12: *GB 6-3 7-5 0-1 Belgium
Murray dominating with his backhand as he moves up 15-30 at the start of the third set. Goffin's second serve is still getting destroyed by Murray, and the Scot's return gives him two break points. A bad bounce robs Murray of the first, before an excellent backhand into the corner from Goffin levels things at deuce. A good serve gets Goffin the Advantage, and a serve out wide followed by a backhand down the line gets him the game.

14:05: GB 6-3 7-5 0-0 Belgium*
Big forehand from Goffin gets him the first point of the game. Tame backhand into the net, and Goffin is up 0-30. Murray's off the hook when Goffin hits wide, and his next serve is too good for Goffin, swinging away down the middle for 30-all. Another missed return from Goffin gives Murray a set point, which he takes with a stunning forehand winner after soaking up huge aggression from Goffin. Tough to see the Belgian coming back into this now.

Great Britain take a two-set lead

13:57: *GB 6-3 6-5 Belgium
Goffin messes up an easy putaway, putting the shot tamely into the net with Murray at his mercy. Some excellent rallying forces the error from Murray, but the Scot keeps the pressure on to get to 30-30. Murray goes for the return winner off the second serve again, but can only net. Game point Goffin, but Murray outlasts Goffin in the next rally, waiting for the short ball, and then punishing it with his forehand. A mishit from Goffin gives Murray break point, which he takes when a tired Goffin forehand flops into the net! Murray to serve for a two set lead next...

13:51: GB 6-3 5-5 Belgium*
A stunning forehand cross-court on the run is way too much for Goffin to handle, and it gives the world number two 15-0. The next point sees a long rally end with Goffin going too close to the line and missing with a forehand. Murray gets a hand from the net there, changing a miss into a forehand winner. He nets to give up a point, before missing with another backhand for 40-30. He holds when Goffin hits a disappointing shot into the net.

13:47: *GB 6-3 4-5 Belgium
Goffin is in at the net to finish off the first point, and hits his fourth ace for 30-0. Murray's trying the return winner down the line again, but it's not working nearly so well for him as he sends it long, and he eventually gives up the game with a sprayed backhand wide.

13:44: GB 6-3 4-4 Belgium*
An ace that catches the outside of the line to start off the game from Murray. An unreturnable serve, another ace, and ANOTHER ace, and Murray's already held.

13:38: *GB 6-3 3-4 Belgium
Murray getting angry with himself as he lands a backhand wide. He repairs the damage by dispatching a short ball down the line with his forehand. Murray cranks up the pressure on Goffin's second serve once more, and plays a superb drop half-volley on the run for 15-30. Goffin puts away a smash at the second attempt to level at 30-all, and plays an excellent rally to draw the error to set himself up with a game point, and holds with a nice forehand winner down the line. The Belgian has really raised his game in the second set, and it's beginning to frustrate Murray.

13:35: GB 6-3 3-3 Belgium*
Goffin overcooks a forehand for 15-0, then Murray puts away a short ball for 30-0. Some heavier hitting from Goffin, but he catches the net, and the ball lands wide. An ace seals the hold for Murray

13:31: *GB 6-3 2-3 Belgium
Murray nets to give Goffin the first point, and misses with his return to hand over the second, too. In fact, a double fault from Goffin proves to be Murray's only point during the game, Goffin holding unusually quickly there.

13:27: GB 6-3 2-2 Belgium*
Goffin misses with his return to start off the second set's fourth game. Ace! An easy smash winner at the net moves Muraay to 40-0, and an odd-looking improvised volley winner from just inside the baseline seals the hold, quick-as-you-like

13:14: *GB 6-3 1-2 Belgium
A spectacular rally with excellent tennis from both players ends with Murray going long. Murray getting frustrated and directing some choice words at his brother Jamie who is watching from the sidelines. He brings out his second-serve return down the line to cause some more damage though, and gets to deuce on Goffin's serve. A loose backhand wide from the Belgian sets up break point for Murray, but that's a horrible forehand wide and long from the world number two. Some scrappy play from both as the score hovers around deuce, but that was absolute lightening from Murray, moving from deep in the backhand corner to return a drop shot on the forehand side for a winner. Murray's too passive here, and it's allowing Goffin to stay alive in this game...and eventually he holds with some nice angled groundstrokes.

13:04: GB 6-3 1-1 Belgium*
Murray is always looking the better player in the baseline rallies today. Having said that, that's a superb winner from Goffin on a tight angle to make it 30-15. He follows that up with a loose forehand that goes wide before a forehand winner that kisses the line. Murray called for a time violation, but decides against arguing with the umpire. This is much better from Goffin as he forces the error to take Murray to deuce. A mishit forehand from Murray gives Goffin break point. Saved with an ace! The Scot lets out a roar when Goffin nets to set up game point, and holds with another excellent serve.

12:59: *GB 6-3 0-1 Belgium
Goffin's first serve is still AWOL, but he gets to 30-15 without too much trouble, and makes it 40-15 with a serve out wide and a backhand down the line. Murray's returning is simply top quality today, another return with too much on it for Goffin to close the gap at 40-30. A carefully weighted backhand down the line from Murray brings us to deuce...Ace from Goffin! Another good serve helps the Belgian to an important hold

12:57: Murray, apparently, is unbeaten in 61 matches this year when winning the first set. On the evidence of the first set, that won't be changing today

12:53: GB 6-3 0-0 Belgium*
Goffin puts a drop shot halfway up the net to give Murray 15-0 as he serves for the set. A bad miss from the Belgian puts Great Britain two points away from the set. A rare error from Murray as hie pushes a backhand long, before an unreturnable serve gives him two set points...and he takes the first one with a serve-forehand combo!

Great Britain lead by one set to love

12:44: *GB 5-3 Belgium
Goffin really needs to start making some more first serves, Murray is unstoppable on his second serve return at the moment. The Brit quite literally hits the roof during the next point, before Goffin double faults to give Murray two set points. The first of them is saved with an ace...and Murray nets the return on the second. Deuce it is, and yet another stunning return from Murray brings up another set point. Goffin is let off again as his opponent misses with a lob to take us back to deuce. A netted backhand gives Goffin a game point before ANOTHER return winner gives us a third deuce. It doesn't quite work this time for Murray, a netted return giving the Belgian another chance to hold, before a good serve FINALLY gives Goffin the game.

12:40: GB 5-2 Belgium*
Goffin finally finds a way through Murray's defences at 15-0 to win his first point in a little while. Ace! Goffin, perhaps frustrated with Murray's retrieving, goes for way too much on a forehand to give Murray two game points. WHAT A SHOT! Murray somehow manages to track down a ball deep in his forehand corner and sneaks it for a cross-court passing winner. Stunning tennis from the Scot, who is in complete control at the moment.

12:36: *GB 4-2 Belgium
Murray's second serve return does the trick again, a backhand down the line too much for Goffin to handle. Outstanding defence from Murray on the next point, he had no right to still be in it, but takes it with a cross-court pass as Goffin approaches the net. Goffin misses with a lob to give Murray three break points...and he takes the first of them with a spectacular cross-court return winner from a metre inside the baseline! Goffin's second serve is getting absolutely pulverised here

12:35: Not sure if there's another tennis tournament in the world where fans are told to "everybody dance now" by the music between games...

12:28: GB 3-2 Belgium*
A few missed first serves from Murray in this game, and Goffin forces a break point at 30-40. Crowd are whistling again as Murray goes for his second serve. It's a great second serve when it comes, a kicker right into the corner that Goffin can't control and the Scot lets out a huge roar. Forehand into the net from Goffin and a huge cross-court forehand give Murray the game.

12:24: *GB 2-2 Belgium
A much easier start to his service game for Goffin, out to a 40-0 lead. He overcooks a forehand to make it 40-15, before sealing the game with an ace out wide

12:20: GB 2-1 Belgium*
Goffin nets a second serve return to give Murray the first point. That drop shot is MUCH better from the Scot, forcing the error from Goffin. Ace. Serve-and-forehand combo from Murray gives him the game. Murray looking far more comfortable on serve in the opening stages

12:12: *GB 1-1 Belgium
Maria is down out of the chair for the first time to check a mark, and confirms Goffin's serve was out. That drop shot's not good enough from Murray, and Goffin forces the error. The next one goes into the net from the Belgian to make it 15-all. The two test out each others' backhands, Goffin eventually going long to give Murray 15-30. Huge winner from the world number 16 for 30-all. Goffin's second serve is swatted away dismissively to give Murray break point...SAVED with a forehand down the line after a gruelling long rally. Two shots into the net from Murray give Goffin a difficult hold.

12:08: GB 1-0 Belgium*
It's a high-energy first game, both players showing some of their best tennis right from the off. The crowd are into it already, whistling between Murray serves, and jeering an aborted ball toss. Pacal Maria is able to quiet them, however, and two big serves give Murray the first game

Goffin has been a superb success story in recent times, moving from outside the top 100 a year and a half ago to establishing himself in the top 20 this year. The clay court was clearly giving him confidence, as he stated "I've never played against Andy on a clay court, so I'm going to try to play my best tennis...on a clay court I have some weapons to play a good match."

Murray admitted to being nervous for his match this afternoon, saying "I'm sure there will be nerves there, but I like being nervous. I think it helps me. It helps me concentrate. It helps me give a little bit more effort. It might only be a couple of percent, but it all makes a difference." The Scot defeated today's opponent 6-1 6-0 just a few weeks ago, and will perhaps be a little more confident inwardly than he's prepared to show publically.

The indoor clay arena in Ghent has proved to be a superb choice of venue, the atmosphere raucous and crackling throughout the tie so far. Expect the noise levels to rise further should Goffin test Murray today - this is a crowd that has already been warned once over excessive noise by the umpire. The clay surface has clearly been chosen with the idea of weakening Murray, but he's looked very strong on it so far and has two titles on the surface as well as a French Open semifinal to point to this year.

"There's a huge task ahead of us...anything can happen in Davis Cup." Those were the words of Belgian captain Johan von Herck, clearly not underestimating the size of the task ahead of his team. The Belgians will have the crowd with them, however, which could potentially be crucial in a deciding fifth rubber - anything can indeed happen in the Davis Cup.

"There's so much to be played - potentially two big matches," said British captain Leon Smith, clearly not getting ahead of himself. There's a chance that James Ward could be switched in to the second singles spot to play the fifth rubber, should it prove decisive. Ward, of course, is a big part of why the British are in the final, having beaten John Isner to steal a crucial point way back in the first round of the competition.

Great Britain haven't defeated Belgium since 1963, and their last meeting anded in a 4-1 loss, the doubles team of Ross Hutchins and Colin Fleming providing the team's solitary point. With the emergence of several new high-quality doubles players, the improvement of James Ward and the return of Andy Murray, this British team has a very different look to it.

Belgium have never won the Davis Cup before, but are still in with a chance. They're in their first final since 1906, when they lost to the British Isles, and will need to win both singles matches today to avoid a repeat of that result.

Good morning and welcome to Vavel UK's live coverage of the final day of the 2015 Davis Cup final. Great Britain need just one more victory to take the title, and will be hoping to claim it in today's first rubber, as Andy Murray takes on David Goffin. The following match will feature Kyle Edmund against Ruben Bemelmans.
