Chelsea sealed qualification from Group E of the UEFA Champions League, with an impressive performance and a 2-1 win away at RB Salzburg.

The result ended the hosts' remarkable 40-match unbeaten home run and ensures that they will need to pick up a result at San Siro, if they are to progress to the Round of 16, alongside Chelsea.

Mateo Kovacic produced a precise, first-time strike with his left foot, which put Chelsea ahead after 23 minutes. The visitors went on to control the rest of the first half and had multiple chances to extend their lead.

Goalkeeper Philipp Kohn was the player of the match and denied multiple attempts from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, among others.

Salzburg started the second half with great intensity and earned an equaliser just a few minutes after the restart. Junior Adamu redirected Maximilian Wober's cross into the back of the net.

Following the equaliser, Chelsea regained their control over proceedings and a Kai Havertz wonder-strike was one which The Blues deserved. They saw out the final periods of the game with relative comfort and sealed the 2-1 win.

Philipp Kohn - 9/10

A man of the match performance ensured that Salzburg retained hopes of extending their unbeaten home record, right up until the final whistle. Eight saves and some very alert bits of sweeping up of balls around him - a performance

Amar Dedic - 5/10

His horrifying pass completion figures of 29% (six from 21) highlight the fact that he, along with the rest of the backline, was a fairly ineffective presence, in possession.

Bernardo - 5.5/10

A poor header back to keeper early on could have been a nightmare start to his evening. The former Brighton man recovered fairly well and completed six tackles during the rest of the game.

Strahinja Pavlovic - 5/10

Both him and Bernardo were fairly often troubled by the Chelsea attack and allowed Aubameyang to have a good amount of opportunities to get on the scoresheet.

Maximilian Wober - 6/10

The left-back put in a pinpoint delivery, leading to Adamu's equaliser. It was one of the few bits of positive attacking play from him - and the rest of his team. The extent of Chelsea's control over the possession is reflected by Wober's figure of five completed passes, in his 78-minute appearance.

Nicolas Seiwald - 5/10

Was a fairly anonymous figure. Covered decent ground on the right hand side, but unable to output a respectable amount of succesfull actions.

Lucas Gourna-Douath - 6/10

One of the hosts' more impressive players. The midfielder won eight of his ten ground duels and completed four combined tackles and interceptions - a good, combative performance.

Maurits Kjaergaard - 6/10

Did not see much of the ball, but looked a very capable and threatening player, when he did. Another respectable performer in the Salzburg midfield.

Luka Sucic - 5.5/10

Did not have a great deal of success, in attempting to be a creative presence for the hosts. The type of game which Chelsea imposed on them forced Sucic to not be as active of a presence in possession, as he usually is.

Noah Okafor - 5/10

Managed to get a few attempts away at the Chelsea goal. Was often the more advanced forward between himself and Adamu. As such, he was particularly isolated for the vast majority of the game.

Junior Adamu - 6/10

If it wasn't for the goal, it would have been an immensely frustrating and underwhelming night for the young Austrian forward. A good bit of movement and a precise finish was the highlight of an otherwise passive performance.

Kepa Arrizabalaga - 7/10

Graham Potter's arrival has seen the Spaniard transition into becoming Chelsea number one keeper. Another good performance continues to justify the decision. Had five saves to make on the night and had very little chance of keeping Adamu's effort out of his net.

Trevoh Chalobah - 7/10

Another player who is enjoying an extended run in the team, under Potter. Very effectively played the wide centre-back role and was an assured presence in and out of possession.

Thiago Silva - 7/10

His missed interception was a rare rash moment - Salzburg were able to capitalise on the mistake and equalise. Otherwise, it was a very impressive evening for the vastly experienced Brazilian.

Marc Cucurella - 7/10

As expected, a significantly positive presence with the ball. Cucurella also won all five of his aerial and ground duels - reflecting what was a good game in a fairly unnatural role for the full-back.

Christian Pulisic - 6.5/10

It was a hard-working, if not hugely effective performance in an unconventionally deep role on the wing. Pulisic was able to supply the assist for Havertz's goal, after a positive bit of play, which drew out a few Salzburg defenders towards him.

Jorginho - 6/10

The midfielder was, as he usually is - a valuable presence in possession. However, his lack of physicality limits his effectiveness defensively, particularly in transitions from attack to defence.

Mateo Kovacic - 8/10

His goal was a fantastic demonstration of his elite technique. A first-time effort, with his weaker foot, opened the scoreline and was the highlight of an impressive 68-minute performance.

Conor Gallagher - 7.5/10

After a breakthrough season at Crystal Palace, the midfielder has struggled to hit similar levels, at his parent club. However, tonight was a hugely impressive performance. Gallagher completed three key passes and won eight of his 11 aerial and ground duels - an effective, all-round presence.

Raheem Sterling - 6/10

Was at the heart of a few decent Chelsea moves, towards the end of the first half. His attacking output was limited, by playing in a fairly deep role.

Kai Havertz - 7.5/10

Up until his magnificent goal, it was a fairly frustrating evening for the German. An early close-range header gave him a good opportunity to get on the scoresheet well before his subsequent stunner - which more than made up for it.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - 5/10

The forward came up against an inspired Kohn in the Salzburg goal. The multi-chaptered battle between the two had the keeper coming out on top, in each one. A total of six efforts at goal reflected an active, yet ineffective evening.
