Tom Cleverley is expected to sign a five-year deal at Everton within the next 72 hours.

The 25-year old, who has spent the past season on loan at Aston Villa, will leave Manchester United on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the month.

In the past few months, Cleverley has gone from being the butt of every joke to an energetic, box to box midfielder. It will come as a real blow for Tim Sherwood as he looks to rebuild his Villa side who finished in 17th position last season, just above the drop-zone.

The England international has always preferred a move to Everton, after working with Roberto Martinez at Wigan Athletic back in 2011. Everton also missed out on Cleverley last summer, before Villa took the United graduate on loan.

Cleverley made 55 appearances during his six years at Manchester United, but has struggled for consistency that saw him hated at Old Trafford and at Villa park for large parts of the past season.
