Emmanuel Adebayor is eding closer to ending his troubled spell at Tottenham, as he prepares himself for a medical ahead of a loan move to Aston Villa.

A deal is believed to have been struck over who will pay what percentage of the Togo international's wage over the coming season, and Adebayor is expected to travel to the Midlands for a Wednesday medical.

With wages of £100,000 per week proving too much for Villa to match, it led to something of a delay in negotiations as the two Premier League club's worked out an acceptable figure for each party. It is also believed that there will be a figure for which Villa can purchase the striker for at the end of his loan, should they wish to.

Squad overhaul

Adebayor is likely to become Villa's eight summer signing so far, with a month of the transfer window still to go. Scott Sinclair and Micah Richards were the first pair in, before Mark Bunn arrived as backup to Brad Guzan.

The real spending picked up after that with three purchases from Ligue 1, as Idrissa Gueye, Jordan Amavi and Jordan Ayew arriving for a combined fee's of over £25million. Jose Angel Crespo is the most recent signing, after moving from Cordoba.

Where does he fit in?

Ayew could be seen as main competition for the striking role to Adebayor, after Tim Sherwood employed a 4-3-3 system towards the back end of last season, with just one central striker.

However, the fairly new manager has expressed his desire to have more tactical flexibility this season, in the absence of £32.5million Liverpool signing Christian Benteke.

If Villa do complete the move, they'll be hoping to get Adebayor fit and ready for the start of the league season, which edges closer with just 11 days left.

Starting with an away match against AFC Bournemouth, Sherwood's side will be hoping for a good start as they seek to improve upon last season's 17th placed finish.
