Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has spoken highly of new signing Jordan Veretout, and described what his new recruit will bring to the team.

Veretout, an £8million addition from Ligue 1 side Nantes last week, became Villa's eight summer signing in a summer of chance at Villa Park, but Sherwood is confident that the Frenchman will make a big impact early on.

Veretout ready to impress

Sherwood told the press that Veretout would be "in a good place" for the start of the season, adding that even though he's "not the finished article," watching him in training sessions has shown that he is certainly "willing to develop".

The centre midfielder has played just shy of 150 senior games in his career, despite only having turned 22 a few months ago, this is something which impressed Sherwood, who said that he'd "played alot of football at a tender age at a good level."

He went on to add that Villa were "excited to bring him in" and that he can "offer something different" to the rest of the squad.

As previously mentioned, the Villans made Veretout their eighth signing of the summer, before confirming Rudy Gestede as number nine just minutes later.

A huge summer at Villa Park

These have helped combat the departures of Fabian Delph, Ron Vlaar and Christian Benteke, three crucial members of Villa's spine over the last three years.

The loss of captain Delph to Manchester City was a tough one, but Scott Sinclair, Veretout and Idrissa Gueye have all been brought in to soften the blow, with Sherwood saying the latter "has emerged as a real top player."

However, he was quick to praise a midfielder who has remained at the club over the summer, praising Ashley Westwood by explaining that anyone who was going to take his place in the team would have to be "a very good player player".

Sherwood and his men are currently putting the finishing touches on their preparations for their Premier League opener, away against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.
