Bringing an end to a hugely eventful summer of activity in the transfer window, Aston Villa rushed to complete three final moves on Deadline Day.

Joleon Lescott, Matija Sarkic and Tiago Ilori were all brought in, with Tim Sherwood having seemingly been keen to bolster his defence and goalkeeping areas before Tuesday's 6pm deadline.

Three more in for Villa

Lescott was the most expected deal, with rumours having linked him to his boyhood club for some time. He wrapped up the move fairly early on, costing £1million.

Sarkic arrived just before Lescott, joining from Anderlecht. His transfer was kept under the radar, and it's likely that Sarkic will go straight into the Under-21 team, with Brad Guzan and Mark Bunn currently the first team goalkeepers.

Ilori was the last to arrive, his transfer coming slightly out of nowehere. Liverpool don't consider the youngster as a key-member of their squad, and were willing to loan him out for the season.

Sunderland had appeared as early front-runners for his signature, but Sherwood swooped in at the last minute, and Villa got a two hour extension to get the paperwork done.

They've paid the Reds £1million to take him for the season, and have an option to buy next summer. It will he interesting to see how much gametime Ilori does get, with Micah Richards, Ciaran Clark, Jores Okore and Lescott all options in that position.

The conclusion to a busy window

With the three Deadline Day moves taking Villa up to 13 signings in total, they're around the top of the league for number of players bought in the Premier League during this window.

Spending over £50million in the process, they'll be hoping for progress in the league this time around, after finishing a lowly 17th last season.

They currently sit 12th after four games, and fans will be looking forward to seeing the new signings help them climb the table after the international break.
