Patience was on the mind of Tim Sherwood after Aston Villa went down 1-0 at home to West Brom on Saturday, with the Villa manager insisting the fans and players alike needed to show it.

It was another frustrating afternoon on Villa Park, with Saido Berahino's goal condeming them to a second successive loss, their fourth in five league games, with their only league win of the season dating back to the opening day - 43 days ago.

Simply losing wasn't the only problem for the fans, they were disheartened by a lack of chances created, something which has troubled Villa all season.

West Brom loss adds to negativity

They've only netted three goals in their first six league games, and things didn't get better on Saturday, with Sherwood admitting that the performance "wasn't good enough".

Upon going ahead, West Brom sat back and made things difficult for Villa, something that they're known for doing under Tony Pulis. Complaining that the opposition "stifled" Villa, he explained his disappointment that his team couldn't "impose themselves" during the 90 minutes.

Birmingham on Tuesday now a huge game

Although calls for his head are few and far between, complaints are increasing, and it's up to Sherwood to use the next few games, starting with Tuesday's game against Birmingham City, to silence the doubters.

Telling supporters that since the start he has "asked for patience", he acknowledged that the Birmingham game was one of great importance, and that the team "needs to respond" to their supporters.

Although a win wouldn't help shift them off four league points, Sherwood conceded that "it helps our fans go home with a smile, which we need to do."

On being stuck on such a low amount of points after six games, the Villa manager was bold in stating that they should have "a lot more than four", and that with so much time left in the season, "there's no need to panic."
