Joe Cole and Tiago Ilori are both likely to have left relegation-threatened Aston Villa by the end of the week, per reports in the Coventry Telegraph and Liverpool Echo respectively.

Cole is set to complete a permanent move to Coventry City following a loan spell with the Sky Blues, whilst Ilori is to have his own loan deal cut short, going back to an injury-stricken Liverpool.

Cole to depart after just 18 months on B6

There was a huge buzz around the signing of Cole on a free transfer back in the summer of 2014, with Villa fans looking forward to having an experienced international player on their books, especially with him being reknowned for his ball skills and trickery.

However, things didn't work out quite as Paul Lambert would have liked upon signing the midfielder, with Cole making just 12 appearances during a season in which Lambert was sacked, scoring only one goal.

It seemed that Cole wasn't rated by Tim Sherwood, and he completed a 35 day emergency loan to Coventry in October, which was eventually extended after an impressive start to his spell.

With his contract at Villa Park coming to an end in the summer, Coventry have now swooped in a bid to pick him up on a permanent deal, one that the player is keen on.

When asked about the deal, the Sky Blues' manager Tony Mowbray commented that the deal is "getting closer", and he'll hopefully have Cole "available against Walsall next Tuesday".

Ilori heading back to Liverpool

Meanwhile, Tiago Ilori is set to have his loan spell cut short at the club, having failed to make an impact since arriving on a season long deal from Liverpool in the summer.

Behind the likes of Joleon Lescott, Jores Okore, Ciaran Clark and Micah Richards in the pecking order, many feel that Ilori hasn't been given a fair chance, with injuries hampering him.

However, it seems to be the right move for all parties, with Villa freeing up some wages, and Liverpool gaining a centre-back during an injury-stricken period at the club, with Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho all sidelined.
