Liverpool centre-back Martin Skrtel believes a good pre-season will be vital for the Reds' new arrivals to adjust to the side.

With training having begun earlier this week, three of the Reds' six new signings - Nathaniel Clyne, Joe Gomez and Adam Bogdan, whilst Divock Origi also trained for the first time since joining last summer.

Three more additions, Roberto Firmino, Danny Ings and also James Milner are all set to soon join up with the squad - with the Brazilian still on his holidays after his country's failed Copa America campaign in Chile.

And Skrtel, who is preparing for his eight full season on Merseyside, is hopeful that their lengthy pre-season - which will take them to Bangkok, Brisbane, Adelaide, Kuala Lumpur and Helsinki, with another potential warm-up friendly away at Swindon Town being lined up for late July, will help them fully integrate themselves into Brendan Rodgers' first-team squad.

"We will be away for almost two weeks and spend some time together so we can get to know them better and they can also get to know us better," the veteran defender said to Liverpoolfc.com.

"It is always good for building team spirit and it is the perfect time for them to come into the team.

"It is always nice to see new players in the team because they can strengthen the team, and that is obviously very important.

"We met the new guys on Monday morning. They're nice lads and I believe they can help us."

Skrtel excited for return to Asia next month

The 30-year-old moved to Anfield from Zenit St Petersburg in January 2008 and has already experienced several pre-season tours across Asia, but has admitted his excitement to return.

The Slovakian national team captain will be in the squad who travel to the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok to take on a Thailand All Star XI a week today, a stadium in which he has played twice previously for the club last summer and in 2009.

"Each time we have been there we've had a nice reception," Skrtel said of the Reds' support abroad.

"The fans are very nice to us, coming to watch us with 40,000 or 50,000 in the stadium. It is always nice to see that.

"I hope this time it is going to be the same and that's why I'm looking forward to it.

"The first time we travelled there was in my second year at Liverpool and I had never seen something like that before.

"Obviously this time I know what we can expect and it's nice to go there and see the fans because not all of them can come to Liverpool and see us play at Anfield."
