Manchester United winger, Ashley Young has said that he was "pleased" with his and his team-mates' performance, in the 0-0 draw with bitter rivals Liverpool.

Pleased with the performance

Jose Mourinho's tactics seemed clear from the beginning, with the Red Devils putting in a solid defensive against Jürgen Klopp's pressing Reds. It was the home side that did have the best chances at Anfield, with Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho both been denied brilliantly by David De Gea. It was Young's first league start since January, and he praised his side's performance after the game.

"We fought until the end and showed great team spirit and, although we are disappointed not to get three points, we are pleased with the way we played." he told manutd.com

Young concluded: "It was a hard game: we know the threats they possess, we worked and fought until the end to get a positive result and we did that."

Expecting a lot more

United weren't without their opportunities to snatch the match, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic heading United's best chance well wide of the mark. The Swede was set up well by Paul Pogba, who once again went somewhat missing in another big game, and Mourinho admitted that he expected more the world's most expensive player.

"Had it been 1-0, it would have been finished," Mourinho told Sky Sports. "Where Pogba was playing, I was expecting more penetration."

He continued, "Defensively we did really well, we should have had a little bit more. We had a big chance that I thought Zlatan was going to score."

Mourinho explained, "For long periods in the game, we thought that could be possible but we didn't score and if you don't score you don't win but I think it was a very positive performance."

Manchester United will take on Fenerbache in the UEFA Europa League group stages at Old Trafford on Thursday, October 20 with kick-off at 8:05pm BST.
