Oriol Romeu insists that Southampton must stay positive ahead of Wednesday's meeting with promoted Watford, despite exiting the FA Cup in the third round yesterday.

Saints fell to a third consecutive defeat after being beaten by Crystal Palace, but Romeu says Saints have got very little time to dwell on the loss.

Saints know they have to fight

The Spaniard wants his side to begin against Watford in the same way which they finished against the Eagles, as they created a number of fantastic chances to find a leveller in the last moments of the cup tie.

"We are not obviously in the best moment in the league," Romeu told BBC Radio Solent. However, he was confident that the team is "clever enough to know this is how we have to fight".

Time to bounce back

He also added, “We have to get the spirit for 90 minutes," professing that "life goes on and football goes on" and insisting that "we just have to prepare for that game [against Watford] well".

“We are not happy, because we are out of the FA Cup, but we are now looking forward for the next game.”

Romeu scored Saints' equalizer after Wayne Hennessey parried Cuco Martina's strike into his path. But, coming in between Palace goals from Joel Ward and Wilfred Zaha, he was once again left with disappointment after scoring his second goal for the club following his strike against Aston Villa a few months back.

Drive is there for Romeu

"When you are scoring, always you want to win,” he continued, but insisted that it doesn't matter who scores the goals as long as the team can get a positive result.

He finished by describing the Palace defeat as "a battle, a very tough game", noting that Saints had had a number of chances in the second half but failed to put any of them into the net.
