Bradford City will play host to Hull City on Tuesday night for the first time since 2005 as they chase what could be the biggest scalp of the competition so far and their first win of the season.

Team news

Bradford

The Bantams are still chasing their first win of the season, and were denied even a point in their 3-2 defeat at Barrow on Saturday. Andy Cook thought he'd salvaged a point in stoppage until Josh Gordon struck in the seventh minute of added to give the Bluebirds victory. Manager Mark Hughes admitted after the game he felt his side 'lacked bravery' and will be looking for just that against their Championship opponents this time around.

Emmanuel Osadebe and Jamie Walker remain out for the home side, with Osadebe suffering a broken leg in their opening day 0-0 draw against Doncaster Rovers. Forward Kian Harratt remains suspended after his late red card in the same game. Jake Young and Andy Cook will be pushing to start this one after both coming off the bench to score on Saturday. Harry Chapman and Alex Gilliead are both in contention to play too after both starting their first games of the season on Saturday.

Hull

The Tigers have an unbeaten start so far this season, with a 2-1 opening day home victory over Bristol City and a 0-0 draw at Preston North End on Saturday to show for their start. What will be a distraction for Shota Arveladze's men heading into this one is the constant media speculation surrounding the future of defender Jacob Greaves, with the club vowing to keep hold of him despite strong interest from Middlesborough.

As a result, maybe expect Greaves not to feature in this one with the speculation mounting over the last few days. Time and time again, we see Championship sides play weakened teams against lower league opposition but don't expect the same case here. Matt Ingram was superb between the sticks on Saturday and will be wanting to keep his place. Ryan Longman and Josh Emmanuel remain long term absentees, with full back Brandon Fleming yet to play this season after an injury picked up in pre season.

Likely lineups

Bradford City (4-2-3-1): Lewis; Halliday, Platt, Crichlow-Noble, Ridehalgh; Songo'o, Smallwood (C); Gilliead, East, Chapman; Cook.

Hull City (3-4-1-2) Ingram; Jones, Figueiredo, Coyle (C); Williams, Seri, Slater, Sayyadmanesh; Ozan Tufan; Estipunan, Wilks.

Key players

Richie Smallwood

Appointed club captain ahead of 22/23 season, Smallwood is 31 now and hasn't really settled at a club. He has joined the Bantams from Hull and his natural role is to play in front of the defence in a holding role. Smallwood will be vital if Bradford are to mount a challenge this season, as his experience and leadership is something they have perhaps lacked in the last few seasons.

Ozan Tufan

One of the Turkish contingent brought in by owner Acun Illicali, 27-year-old Tufan has unfulfilled potential. After seven years at Fenerbache, he has played some of the best teams in Europe, and has Champions League and Europa League experience under his belt. He spent last season on loan at Watford, where coaches at the club weren't critical of Tufan's abilities, but more so of his ability to adapt to the Premier League. He is a permanent signing with the Tigers, and the Championship could be the perfect platform for him to prove himself again. One goal in his first two games shows he is doing well so far.
