On a day where it looked like we could be seeing a 0-0, Tottenham were gifted with a penalty after good work from Harry Kane to get to the ball before Jordan Pickford.

Pickford initially spilt a shot from Matt Doherty before tripping Kane, who then put the penalty away with power to break the deadlock.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg put the game to bed late on after good work from Rodrigo Bentancur, placing the ball into the right-hand corner.

Here is how the players rated at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium:

Tottenham

Hugo Lloris - 7/10

He had very little to do in net, with most of Everton’s key chances being blazed over. However, did well when the ball eventually entered his box.

Matt Doherty - 6/10

Defensively a good performance from the Irishman but struggled to have an impact further up the pitch.

Christian Romero - 8/10

A great performance at the back. As ever, strong in a challenge and stepped up to any danger. His only wrongdoing was a mix-up with Hojbjerg to gift Everton a big chance.

Eric Dier - 7/10

A very composed performance at the back, calm as anything on the ball and headed danger away well.

Ben Davies - 7/10

As his team tried to break down their opponents, he provided an extra number going forward. Constantly overlapping Perisic and crossed into the box well.

Ivan Perisic - 8/10

Played very high in this match which saw the Croatian occupy some good crossing positions, allowing him to put some great crosses into the Everton box. A constant threat.

Rodrigo Bentancur - 8/10

A fantastic performance from the Argentine. Positive throughout the match, as he always looked forward on the ball and was always eager to win the ball back for his team. He assisted well with a swept cross for Hojberg.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg - 7/10

Positioned himself well in midfield, although was at fault for a mix-up with Romero to gift Everton a chance. However, he more than made up for it by placing the ball away to put the game to bed.

Richarlison - 6/10

He was a handful for his former side, constantly winning fouls around their box. Although did not threaten their goal too much, his only real chance came just before halftime.

Son Heung-Min - 6/10

Not a great day in front of goal for the Tottenham winger, but had some good moments in transitions where he works best.

Harry Kane - 9/10

A great all-around performance from the Tottenham captain. Won and took the penalty very well, whilst linking play and often making intelligent runs in behind. He continues his great start to the season.

Substitutions

Fraser Forster

Clement Lenglet

Davinson Sanchez (87’) – N/A

Djed Spence (90+3’) – N/A

Yves Bissouma (52’) - 6/10

A good cameo from the bench added a good option into that midfield, in which he often dropped into space to receive the ball and passed well to his teammates.

Ryan Sessegnon

Oliver Skipp (90+3’) – N/A

Bryan Gil

Lucas Moura (90+3’) – N/A

Everton

Jordan Pickford - 4/10

In the first half, he came off his line and commanded his box well. But let his side down when he poorly spilt Doherty’s shot in the second half, which led to him tripping Kane and conceding the penalty.

Seamus Coleman - 5/10

Not the greatest of matches for the Irish veteran, defended well at times but often struggled to clear his lines.

Conor Coady - 7/10

Positioned himself well at the back, playing the ball out of defence very well.

James Tarkowski - 8/10

This a big reminder of the great business from Everton to bring him to the club for free. Despite conceding twice, he was immense at the back for his side, constantly clearing the ball and tackling any danger near the box.

Vitaliy Mykolenko - 5/10

A quiet game from the left back, who remained very deep in the game and rarely got forward to support the attackers.

Idrissa Gueye - 7/10

Did the simple things well for his side, winning the ball back multiple times and dictating the play when on the ball.

Amadou Onana - 6/10

He tried to push his team forward with a few good dribbles through Tottenham’s defence but was poor to finish when he capitalised on the opposition’s mistake in midfield.

Alex Iwobi - 5/10

The only thing the ex-Arsenal man offered was being the man to cut passing lanes. He struggled to offer anything on the ball and was often dispossessed.

Dwight McNeil - 6/10

He lacked any cutting edge going forward but often tracked back to help his teammates defend the Tottenham domination.

Demarai Gray - 7/10

He was Everton's main attacking outlet in the first half, trying to bring the ball into the final third and should have scored after a good run in behind. Although had a quiet second half.

Neal Maupay - 5/10

As Tottenham had most of the possession, he had little service going forward. His yellow card was his only highlight in the game.
