Georgia State pulled off an unbelievable 57-56 upset of Baylor in their first tournament game in which R.J. Hunter knocked down a deep three with two seconds left to seal the win for the Panthers. GSU head coach Ron Hunter even fell off of his rolling chair on his injured Achilles but he said he was ok and the moment was all worth it.

However, tonight, through a fantastic performance by the Xavier backcourt, the Musketeers tripped up the Panthers, and will move to the next round to play Arizona as GSU's short run comes to a close.

Georgia State started the game off slow and it turned into a 9-4 start for the Big X that was triggered off of a Miles Davis three pointer for Xavier. Remy Abell then converted an and-one play that made it 12-4 for the Musketeers. Davis would then tack on another three and go up 15-4. The Musketeers were on a 9-0 run. A Kevin Ware steal turned into a layup on the other end of the floor that helped GSU cut the deficit to 17-10. The Panthers then received a push from a Ryan Harrow three pointer that cut it to 19-15. Harrow didn't play in the first tournament game due to a hamstring injury.

Georgia State started 0/4 but would then go on to make four out of their next eight shots. It was a 9-2 GSU run. Xavier then turned the tables and Miles Davis came to life as he added another three pointer to create a 26-17 lead and it was a 7-0 Musketeer run. Two three balls by Ryan Harrow and R.J. Hunter cut it to 26-23 with 4:40 left in the half. A Jalen Reynolds dunk extended the lead back to five but Ryan Harrow then knocked down another three ball to cut it to 30-28. Georgia State had the last possession of the half but a turnover by Markus Crider led to a turnover that resulted in a layup for Xavier right before the buzzer. The Musketeers led 32-28 at halftime. R.J Hunter had eight points for Georgia State and Jalen Reynolds had 10 points off the bench for Xavier.

Markus Crider cut the deficit to two at the start of the second half. Kevin Ware was then able to tie the game at 34 with 17:54 left. Miles Davis continued his three point tear in the second half as he increased the Xavier lead to 43-38. A Jalen Reynolds slam made it a 45-38 game. The Musketeers were going on a 7-0 run. Reynolds had a huge game as he posted a career-high 21 points. Trevon Blulett increased the lead to nine at 51-42 off of a three ball. Dee Davis then knocked down a three to make it 54-44. R.J. Hunter then attempted to lead a Georgia State rally. A three pointer by him cut it to 55-51 with 5:46 left. GSU was in the bonus and it then helped Hunter hit two free throws to make it 57-53 with 5:05 left. However, Miles Davis was able to seal the game for the Musketeers after hitting a three and knocking down two free throws that made it a 69-59 game with 1:03 left. GSU missed some more shots in the final minute, and Xavier prevailed 75-67.

The sixth seeded Xavier Musketeers now move on to face the Arizona Wildcats in Los Angeles in the Sweet 16. Georgia State's run is over as they had a tremendous season in which they won the Sun Belt Conference regular season title and tournament title and also upset Baylor in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
