Billy Garrett Jr. had brought DePaul back to this point. With less than a second remaining, the star Blue Demon with 20 points on the afternoon was fouled while attempting a three-pointer. The Prudential Center was in a hush as the junior walked up to the charity stripe, needing to drill all three shots to tie the ball game and send it to overtime.

"Boink". Garrett Jr., who had done everything under his power to keep the game close, couldn't get the job done in the end as he missed the first free throw. Seton Hall prevailed in a brutal game that started at 11:00 AM EST, ending in a 78-74 victory margin for the Pirates.

Seton Hall's star sophomore guard Isaiah Whitehead showed great toughness today, leading the charge with 18 points and 9 assists.

In this physical matchup, the force of Angel Delgado down low helped the Pirate cause as he garnered 12 points and 12 rebounds. Despite a rough night shooting from deep, Khadeen Carrington ended up with 14 points and 4 critical steals.

Down low, it was an utter slugfest all game. DePaul's frontcourt duo of Myke Henry and Rashaun Stimage combined for 30 points and 14 rebounds. They tussled with Seton Hall's Delgado and Ismael Sanogo, and it turned the game into a grind. The catalysts for the teams were DePaul's Garrett Jr. and Seton Hall's Whitehead, an all-star Big East matchup that didn't underwhelm.

DePaul only led once in the game after an Aaron Simpson three pointer to open up the 2nd half, but the stayed right in striking distance throughout the battle. After some critical free throw misses down the stretch by Kevin Willard's Pirates, DePaul had a chance to send it to overtime. However, Garrett Jr. could not come through in his first of 3 free throws at the end, and after missing the final free throw on purpose, Seton Hall swept up the rebound. The 8,201 Pirate fans breathed a sigh of relief, for Seton Hall had moved on to 2-0 in conference play.

Now 12-2 on the year, Seton Hall looks like a contender in the tough Big East. The Pirates are looking to get to the NCAA Tournament this year after falling down the stretch in the regular season last season. Avoiding losses to below .500 teams like DePaul is critical in strengthening their bid.

DePaul's schedule only gets tougher, as the team welcomes #9 Butler to Chicago on Tuesday. Seton Hall looks for their 8th straight win when they head to #16 Villanova on Wednesday.
