The NHL draft is set to happen in a few hours and there are a lot of trade rumors going around. Teams are trying to move up and teams are trying to get rid of players. The Boston Bruins made a blockbuster trade today sending defensemen Dougie Hamilton to the Calgary Flames for the 15th, 45th, and 52nd overall selections in tonight NHL draft.

Last season for the Bruins, Hamilton recorded 10 goals, and 32 assists with a plus-minus of minus three. Drafted by Boston in the 2012 NHL draft, Hamilton was hyped to having the potential to be a franchise defensemen, He has been pretty solid so far for Boston, but last season was a down year for everyone in Boston. His best season came in 2013-14 season where he had seven goals, 18 assists with a plus-minus of plus 22.

Hamilton showed that he has great potential to become great as a defensemen with his ability to check and knowing how to keep the puck out of the net.  He is mostly known for his defensive side but he could provide some offense when it is needed from him. It might take him a year or two to grow but once he reaches his full potential he will become a huge assist to your team.

Boston is getting a great package of draft picks for the prized prospect. They already got the 14th pick and now they've added the 15th, 45th, and 52nd overall pick. The team now has more flexibility to make more moves tonight at the draft if they choose to. Everyone has been speculating that they will be trying to move up to the top 10, most notably the third overall pick. The Arizona Coyotes hold that pick as of now, but the rumor is they want to draft defensemen and Massachusetts   native Noah Hanifin .

Calgary is getting another talented young player in Hamilton, for the deep pool of talented young players that they already have. Hamilton will be able to step into Calgary with the expectations of becoming a franchise top-two defensemen. Calgary did give up a lot for Hamilton but in the end it was worth is for a guy with the potential like Hamilton.
