Hamilton, the weekend's favorite
After a difficult year, Lewis Hamilton will drive his Mercedes W12 at home. The Briton wants to take the first place in Friday's qualifying, as well as the three points awarded to the winner of Saturday's sprint race and start first in Sunday's race for a victory that will cut the gap to Max Verstappen and his Red Bull.
Changes in the classification, the sprint arrives
For 2021, the FIA implemented a new qualifying system in Formula 1 for three Grands Prix, Silverstone being one of them. This change stipulates that Free Practice 1 will be run on Friday, as well as qualifying based on Q1, Q2 and Q3. This qualifying will define Saturday's starting grid. On that day, free practice 2 and a short qualifying, based on a sprint race of no more than 100 kilometers, will determine the final starting grid positions for Sunday's big race.
The sprint race will award three points in the drivers' world championship standings to the driver who manages to win it, two to the second and one point to the third.
Hamilton and his pole position at Silverstone 2020
The pole position winner of the last British Grand Prix held in 2020 was Lewis Hamilton, achieving times of 1:25.900 in Q1, 1:25.347 in Q2 and 1:24.303 in Q3.
Silverstone Circuit
Held on May 13, 1950, Silverstone was the circuit that hosted the first Formula 1 Grand Prix in history. With a total of 52 laps and a length of 5.891 kilometers, we will be part of one of the great races of the year.
