Looking for a reinforcement

Santiago Solari confirmed last Thursday that América urgently needs a replacement after the unfortunate injury to Santiago Naveda:

"The options are open, we urgently need to close the squad because we are in full competition, Concachampions Semifinals and the tournament. We urgently need to close, but there are times when unexpected things happen, such as Santiago's unfortunate injury, which we hope he will recover soon. The only specific player we have left is Pedro and I think it could be a risk to have one," he commented.

Getting used to winning

Diego Cocca, Atlas coach, commented at the end of the game against Pachuca that these Rojinegros are getting used to winning and want to create that habit in order to enter, first and foremost, the playoffs:

"I think last tournament we also demonstrated that. We are building a winning mentality and it is a construction, when improvement is constant at some point you reach the level you want. Today we are not there, today we are growing, improving, there are young players who have not yet reached their ceiling and we want to help them reach it, we don't know what their ceiling is, we hope they don't have to go to the playoffs".

The balance in the last five matches is very even with three wins for the capital team and two for the Rojinegros. The last time they played at the Estadio Jalisco without counting that victory over Atlas' table was in the Apertura 2019 where the home club also came away with the win thanks to a 3-0 victory.

Key player America

Since the departure of Miguel Herrera, it seems that Roger Martínez has taken his second wind with the Águilas becoming a fundamental piece in Santiago Solari's scheme, contributing with shots and giving him the opportunity for the volume of the offense to grow in each play with his ability to retain the ball.

Key player Atlas

It seems that the Argentine Julio Furch, who has just scored against Tuzos del Pachuca, is determined to get back on track, remembering that he missed most of last year's tournament due to a painful injury that forced him to be out for three months.

América: trying to convince

América also has the same seven points as its rival and has not lost, and has only conceded one goal; however, the criticism has been for a performance that is not convincing due to the poor show in the last third of the field, even though they have two wins in a row and are coming off a midweek win over Philadelphia Union in the CONCACAF Champions League.
4:15 PMa month ago

Atlas: keep defending well

The Rojinegros del Atlas are the only team in Liga MX that after 270 minutes have not conceded a goal, highlighting that it has not been by luck, since between the defensive work and the performances of Camilo Vargas they have left seven points. They have just defeated Pachuca Tuzos 1-0 as visitors.
4:10 PMa month ago

The controversial game

It is worth remembering that last season América beat Atlas 3-0 on the field, however, due to an improper alignment on the bench by Federico Viñas, the Águilas lost the three points on the table and that was the key for the Rojinegros to react and get into the Mexican soccer playoffs.
