The New York Yankees scored in six-of-eight innings to take down the Detroit Tigers at Yankee Stadium, 14-3. Detroit got desperate in the late stages and sent position player Josh Wilson to the mound. Wilson gave up a home run over one inning of work.

Alfredo Simon started for the Tigers and exited very early after going just 2.2 innings and giving up seven earned runs on eight hits and three walks. Simon, called "Big Pasta," struck out two batters and tossed 85 pitches. With the loss, he is 7-4 with a 3.29 ERA on the 2015 season.

Didi Gregorius and Carlos Beltran were the two that launched homers against Simon, meanwhile, the team punched him out after he gave up seven runs.

Later in the third, Alex Rodriguez snagged career hit No. 3,001, which happened to be a three-run home run to left, scoring Brett Gardner and Chase Headley. Early in the fourth inning, Beltran hit a shot to right to make it 9-0 in favor of the Yankees.

Both those home runs came off of reliever Ian Krol, who went 1.1 innings and gave up three runs on five hits. Krol threw 23 pitches and has an 8.68 ERA.

Rodriguez owned an outstanding day, going 2-for-3 with five RBI and one walk. He is slashing .283/.386/.529 during the 2015 season, but is still far away from an opportunity to play at the All-Star game.

When most would get better, the Tigers got worse. Tom Gorzelanny, who was acquired in the offseason, went 1.0 innings and gave up three runs on three hits and one walk, but at least the lefty did not give up a home run. After the fifth inning, the Yankees led the Tigers by 13 runs.

Nathan Eovaldi was outstanding for the Yankees on Saturday. He went 6.0 innings and gave up just two runs on three hits and a walk. After 93 pitches, his day was finished. However, Eovaldi won and is now 6-2 with a 4.95 ERA.

The Tigers finally got on the board in the seventh inning, as J.D. Martinez doubled to right, scoring Rajai Davis. Josh Wilson scored on a wild pitch by Bryan Mitchell to make it two runs on the day for Detroit. However, both those runs were earned runs handed to Eovaldi because he allowed Davis and Wilson to reach base.

Later in the inning, James McCann singled to center, scoring Martinez. The Tigers cut their lead to 10 runs, but never were able to make a full come-back.

Mitchell ended game with 3.0 innings pitched, giving up one earned run on four hits. The 24-year-old was making his MLB debut and now has a 3.00 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP.

Mitchell, a top pitching prospect, went 4-5 with a 2.79 ERA over 13 games started in the Minor Leagues. He tossed 67.2 innings and gave up 34 walks and 54 hits, earning Mitchell a 1.30 WHIP.

The Tigers sent Wilson, a position player, to the mound in the eighth inning. He gave up one earned run, a home run to Chris Young, on two hits. Young's home run made it a 14-3 game, which is how it finally ended. The Tigers threw a total of 179 pitches during the game on Sunday.
