Haiti has defeated Honduras 1-0 in the first match of the double header from Sporting ParkPanama must now win their game to finish second in the group.

Panama Starting XI: Penedo, Pimentel, Cummings, R Torres, Gomez, Perez, Tejada, Cooper, Davis, Quintero, Godoy

United States Starting XI: Guzan, Bradley, Beckerman, Brooks, Morales, Bedoya, Alvarado, Wondolowski, Zardes, Chandler, Johnson

Starting Lineups have been announced.

At halftime of the first match, Haiti leads Honduras 1-0 with a Duckens Nazon goal.  If results hold, Panama will need a victory to secure the second place finish in the group.

Tonight’s match is shaping up to be another defensive battle.  Panama has conceded a single goal or less in their last twelve Gold Cup matches while the Americans have accomplished the same feat over their last eight.

The United States National Team has not lost a Gold Cup match since Jurgen Klinsmann took over the team.  In his first eight games, Klinsmann has managed his side to victory.

There are two five goal scorers from the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup on the rosters for tonight’s matchup.  Chris Wondolowski of the United States and Gabriel Torres of Panama each scored five times in 2013 along with former USMNT star Landon Donovan.  Both Torres and Wondolowski have only been utilized once this tournament, each as a late sub.

Panama’s Blas Perez is currently sitting in third on the all time Gold Cup goals behind Luis Roberto Alves of Mexico at 12 and Landon Donovan of the United States at 18.  Despite his impressive history, he has been lackluster in the 2015 Gold Cup so far.  If Panama wants to advance, Perez will need to step up.

Panama has scored a goal in each of the two previous games.  Alberto Quintero scored in the first match against Haiti and Luis Tejada scored in the second match against Honduras.

Clint Dempsey’s goal against Haiti tied him with Brian McBride for fourth all time among American’s at the CONCACAF Gold Cup

Clint Dempsey has scored all three goals for the United States so far in the 2015 Gold Cup so far.  Dempsey is currently tied for the Golden Boot race with Mexico’s Oribe Peralta.

To go with the two absences, Panama has four other players with a yellow card after the first two.  Another yellow by Luis Tejeda, Armando Cooper, Anibal Godoy, or Jamie Penedo will result in the respective player missing the first knockout game should Panama advance.

Panama will be without their starting left and right fullbacks tonight as both serve suspensions for cards.  Luis Enriquez picked up two yellow cards in stoppage time of the match against Honduras and will serve his red card suspension.  Adolfo Machado received a yellow in each of the first two matches and will serve his suspension as well.

Jurgen Klinsmann will be able to select his lineup from the entire 23 man roster as no United States players have been suspended due to yellow card accumulation.  John Anthony-Brooks is the only player currently with a yellow card and at risk of missing the first knockout game with another yellow.

If Panama loses by a single goal and both Panama and Honduras score an equal number of goals for the day, second place in Group A will be awarded by a drawing of lots.

The fourth tiebreaker is head to head results of the teams in question, but since Panama and Honduras drew, this tiebreaker will not decide the fate of the two teams.

If Panama keeps the match to a single goal, the tiebreaker switches to goals scored.  Both Honduras and Panama have forced two goals in the opening two games.  Whoever scores more on the day will earn the tiebreaker and advance.

A draw in the first match of the day would make it possible for Panama to finish second in the group with a loss, but tiebreakers would be needed.  Honduras currently has a negative one goal differential while Panama has a zero goal differential.  A loss by more than a single goal by Panama would end their chances as a negative two goal differential losses the tiebreaker.

A win by either Haiti or Honduras will force Panama to beat the United States if they want to finish second in the group.

Panama is awaiting the result of the Haiti versus Honduras match that kicks off at 7:00PM EST to know exactly what is needed against the United States.

Despite the result of the first game, Panama can secure the second place finish in the group with a win over the United States today.  Haiti or Honduras is only able to attain four points with a win in their match.

Panama are currently on two points in the group after giving up leads to both Haiti and Honduras in their first two games.  Panama desperately needs a result against the United States to have a hope of finishing second in the group.

The United States has already qualified for the knockout stage of the Gold Cup by winning their first two games.  Their two wins have propelled them to an early win of Group A.

Tonight is the exciting conclusion of Group A play with the United States taking on Panama for a rematch of the 2013 Gold Cup Final in which the Unites States won 1-0 from a Brek Shea goal.
