Full time Bayern win 2-1

A dull second half for the most part ended with some excitement as Leon Goretzka scored the winner for Munich with four minutes to go.

Bayern worked slowly throughout the match and therefore had to work hard for the win. Lewandowski and Mueller's absences clearly held them back as the attack simply didn't fire on all cylinders. But Goretzka came to the rescue in the end.

Gladbach pushed hard in the second stanza but weren't able to make anything happen. Without their two best attacking options, Thuram hurt in the first half and Plea out through yellow card suspension, Galdbach had a tough task and a tough time. VAR didn't help either, ruling out one of their goals in the first half for a marginal offside.

Bayern remain at the top of the table clear of the chasing pack and on track for another Bundesliga title

Gladbach remain in fourth place ahead of Leverkusen on goal difference in the hunt for a Champions League place.

Halftime 1-1

A fairly even half between Bayern and Gladbach

Both goals come from mistakes, an errant pass from Gladach's Sommer gifted a goal to Bayern. While at the other end, Pavard's own goal leveled the scoring.

VAR also took a goal away from the visitors for a marginal offside call.

Despite the mistakes, each side have had chances on goal and could have at least two or three.

Bayern, though, clearly suffering without Lewandowski and Mueller while Gladbach playing well without their two strikers, Thuram who left the in the 10th minute through injury and Plea

Thiago To Miss For Bayern

Bayern manager Hansi Flick announced Friday at his prematch press conference that midfielder Thiago Alcantara has had surgery on his groin and will miss the next few weeks.

Thiago suffered the injury midweek in the DFB Pokal semifinal win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Key Players

Marcus Thuram will need to put on a clinic at forward for Gladbach if they are to have any chance of getting a point. The Frenchman will be without his striker partner, Plea, which means perfect opportunity to display his skillset.

For Bayern, who starts in Lewandowski's place? Another striker? A false 9? Who comes into the midfield for the incredibly in form Muller?

Still, Bayern will likely have enough fire power to take it to their visitors.

Gladbach For The Upset?

Gladbach have won three of their last five meetings with Bayern. Ramy Bensebaini, with his only Bundesliga brace, sealed a 2-1 win for the Foals with a stoppage-time penalty in the reverse fixture.

Without Lewandowski and Muller in attack for Bayern, Gladbach have an outside shot of snatching at least a point.

Flick Focused

"The way we play football is fun to watch," Flick said earlier this week. "You want to become better. I have to congratulate the team with the way they have been playing in 2020. For us as coaches it is great."

"We now have four games left in the league and we want to keep focused and be successful. We know we need two more wins."

Two more wins, they've got another Bundesliga title.

Bayern New Manager Bounce Sustained

Hansi Flick took over in the fall for the fired Niko Kovac. And since then, Bayern have been on a tear, enough so to earn Flick a permanent deal.

Thomas Muller has reentered the squad and is about to break the record for most assists in a Bundesliga season with a few games remaining.

Canadian Alphonso Davies has excelled at left back. And although initially a change in position under Kovac, Flick has keep the speedster at full back and he's taken full advantage of it, keeping Bayern and Bundesliga record signing Lucas Hernandez relegated to the bench even after returning from injury.

Striker Alassane Plea will miss the crucial match after receiving a red card in their last outing, a loss to Freiburg.

Midfielders Denis Zakaria and Tobias Strobl will both miss the match due to injury.

3:03 AM25 days ago

Gladbach Recent Form

Gladbach have seen an up and down restart. In five games, 2W 1D and 2L have seen them limp along in the top four race.

A home loss to Bayer Leverkusen and an away draw to relegation battling Werder Bremen have put them in a hotly contested Champions League place battle.

Bayern Roster And Injury Notes

Bayern will have to play without star striker Robert Lewandowski who will miss due to yellow card accumulation.

The no-natural-position Thomas Muller will also miss the match for one too many yellow cards.

Germany forward Serge Gnabry is also a doubt after picking up a knock in training this week.
