Returning to Middlesbrough has a special taste for the England manager. He has been in charge of the English team since 2016, when he was promoted after working in the country's U-21 team. The former defender started his coaching career precisely at Middlesbrough and left the club in the 2009 season after 151 games, 45 wins, 43 draws and 63 losses. Since then Boro has been in the Championship and finished last season in 10th place.

Failure in the Nations League
Romania is in the League B. In 2020, it won only one of five games and finished 3rd in group 1, behind Austria and Norway. England, on the other hand, which competes for the elite, also failed to qualify for the final round in League A because it won three of six games and finished 3rd in group 2. UEFA Euro is coming
England opens UEFA Euro 2021 next Sunday (13) against Croatia at Wembley. Scotland and Czech Republic complete group D. England won seven of their eight qualifying matches in the group stage - their only defeat was a 2-1 away defeat to the Czechs on October 11, 2019. Romania, on the other hand, finished the qualifying group stage in 4th place behind Spain, Sweden and Norway, and fell in the playoff to Iceland. In the campaign were four wins, two draws and four defeats.
Romania: Last match
Last Wednesday (3), the underdog walked around the Ilie Oana Stadium, in Ploiesti, a city located north of the capital Bucharest, as Georgia won 2-1, with goals from Mikataudze and Aburjania. Andrei Ivan pulled one back. The confrontation had two players sent off, one for each side - the Romanian Florin Tanase left the field in the first half for leaving his arm on Chabradze and the Georgian Solomon Kverkvelia was red-carded in the second half for committing a penalty. When the score was 1-0, Ivan was brought down in the box. Razvan Marin went for the ball but shot over the bar, too far from the goal.

Arsenal's Bukayo Saka scored the only goal in the victory over Austria at the same Riverside Stadium where today's match will take place this week. The bad news was that right-back Alexander-Arnold injured his ankle.

The main absence is defender Harry Maguire, captain of Manchester United, who suffered a ligament injury in his left ankle against Aston Villa in May in the Premier League. Another one who is out is full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, cut after being injured in the friendly against Austria.
