Juan Carlos Osorio may not be happy with his men's performance, but on the other side of the coin, he will be extremely content with having managed to start the adventure in the States with a precious win, which puts Mexico in the driver's seat in Group C.

On the other side, Uruguay will be grieved by this loss after playing almost all the second half with ten men following Matias Vecino's expulsion just before half-time, before Andres Guardado was sent off for Mexico, having almost recuperated the result but failed to preserve it until the end.

Mexico took matters into their own hands immediately as they prompted in search of an early goal which would put them in the driver's seat and they managed to do that after barely five minutes, when Andres Guardado whipped in a cross from the right flank which bounced off Alvaro Pereira to register their fastest goal in the history of the competition.

The goal was greeted with relief from the leading side as they kept on bossing the game, stretching the field wide and slipping behind Uruguay's defensive line, however, they could not extend their lead, keeping Uruguay in the match.

Mexico transformed itself from a 4-3-3 formation into a 3-2-4-1 with Rafa Marquez moving backward, pushing Hector Moreno and Nestor Araujo to the flanks while Miguel Layun was relocated high on the left flank.

Javier Aquino almost added to Uruguay's woes but his curling effort was well parried by Fernando Muslera. In the 30th minute, Uruguay almost grabbed an equalizer out of nowhere, when Edinson Cavani exploited the space between Mexico's defensive line and fired a shot from inside the box but Alfredo Tavarela bravely deflected the PSG's striker's shot into the corner.

Just before the half-time whistle, Vecino left Uruguay with ten men after kicking Jesus Corona on the sidelines, compromising the match for Oscar Washington Tabarez's men.

After the interval, Uruguay seemed to be more spirited and started to push forward, seeking an equalizer which would help them to settle down quickly in the match. They almost found it through Diego Rolan, but surprisingly, he managed to miss within meters away from Tavarela.

Mexico almost punished Uruguay for missing this chance when Javier Hernandez received from the left flank but his effort was directed into Muslera's hands.

Cavani and Tavarela renewed their duel in the 71st minute when the Uruguian slipped behind Mexico's defensive line, but Tavarela was quick in deflecting away the danger.

A few minutes later, Mexico was down to ten when talisman Andres Guardado was sent off for a double yellow card. Osorio's side was quickly punished as from same free-kick, Diego Godin headed home amid the Mexican fan's disappointment.

It looked like Mexico were going to let the three points slip from their hands until captain Rafa Marquez put his nation in front in the 85th minute. It was a corner from down the left flank, the ball was whipped in into the box, dropped at Marquez's feet, whom with a great sense of goal, slammed the ball behind Muslera for 2-1.

Mexico wrapped up the match with the third goal courtesy to Hector Herrera after an excellent counter attack from the El Tri. Hirving Lozano's cross was flicked by Raul Jimenez towards Herrera who had the easiest of tasks of putting the ball into the empty net.

What is next for both teams

Up next for Mexico will be Jamaica on June 9th at 10pm ET, at Rose Bowl in Pasadena.  Against the Reggae Boyz, the El Tri will be striving to take the maximum point in order to clinch a place in the quarterfinal of this tournament.

On the other hand, Uruguay will eye three points against Venezuela if they want to prolong their adventure in the United States. They will be in action in the match preceding Mexico's, at 7:30pm ET at Lincon Financial Field in Philadelphia
