That's half-time and goals from Danny Batth and Sam Clucas see the Potters 2-0 up at the break.

Exactly the reaction Michael O'Neill would've wanted following Thursday's defeat to Leeds.

Instant improvement needed in the second half if Birmingham are to get anything from this one.

Pre-match reading

With around half an hour to go until kick-off, why not take a look at our match preview? writer Dan Morgan takes a look at both sides ahead of today's game.

Two changes for Stoke this afternoon as Adam Davies and James Chester come in for Jack Butland and Nathan Collins.

Goalkeeper Butland is said to be out due to a neck injury.

Injuries to Kristian Pedersen and Jake Clarke-Salter see Harlee Dean and Wes Harding return to the Birmingham starting eleven.

18-year-old Nico Gordon also makes his first league start in what looks to be like a back five for the Blues.

Here's how both sides line-up this afternoon:

11:29a year ago

Pre-match thoughts: Steve Spooner

"Obviously we have prepared beyond that (vs Stoke) because that would be poor caretaking from us if we did not look beyond the one game.

"If we were to be in charge for just the one game, if anyone else comes in, we would like to think we have given them a kind of platform in terms of organisation and routine for them to build on.

“I am excited, I love this club, the people at Birmingham have become very special to me, this is a certain kind of football club."

11:26a year ago

Pre-match thoughts: Michael O'Neill

“They (the squad) have to make sure they are ready to play on Sunday. It’s a home game and we will do everything we can do win.

“We got a good reaction after a poor performance against Barnsley and we have to hope we get a similar reaction against Birmingham.”

“We have to focus on ourselves really. Birmingham have had a difficult time since lockdown and had difficult time prior to that.

"They’ve obviously changed manager but we just have to concentrate on our own performance, and it obviously needs to be a lot better than Thursday."

Last time they met

Three goals in the second half saw the Blues come from behind to beat their opponents last time the two met on August 31.

Liam Lindsay put Stoke in front just before the hour mark but goals from Lukas Jutkiewicz and Jude Bellingham helped turn things around at St Andrew's.

How to watch

The match is available to watch live in the UK on Sky Sports Football with coverage starting from 1:25 pm.

Overseas viewers can also stream the game live via either of the two club's video platforms.

Team news

Potters boss Michael O'Neill looks set to be without captain Ryan Shawcross after the defender was again sidelined against Leeds.

The visitors have no fresh injury concerns though Maxime Colin, Dan Crowley and Bellingham are all one yellow card away from a one-match suspension.

21:26a year ago

Fresh start

Birmingham head into today's game under the watchful eye of caretaker manager Steve Spooner.

The 59-year-old takes charge of the Blues until the end of the season after former boss Pep Clotet was sacked four games earlier than planned following their 3-1 defeat to Swansea on Wednesday

21:22a year ago

Improvement needed

Stoke will be looking for instant improvement following their lacklustre 5-0 defeat to league leaders Leeds United on Thursday.

That result left the Potters just one point above the relegation zone in 21st.

But with results of rival sides yesterday going in their favour, they could climb as high as 17th should they win this afternoon.

Kick-off time

The Stoke City vs Birmingham City match will be played at the bet365 Stadium, in Stoke-on-Trent, England. The kick-off is scheduled at 13:30 BST.
