Newcastle on the beach?

Newcastle themselves have been on a run of poor form recently, the magpies have only picked up two points from the last fifteen available.

Similar to the reds, they have found themselves with little to play for in the final weeks of the season. It's clear all eyes at St James' Park on firmly fixed on next season and any potential take over that could be sanctioned.

15:212 months ago

It could be a big day for Taki Minamino, the Japanese International starts on the final day of the season for the champions.

He's failed to hit the ground running in the games that he has played in red so far, but their is no doubting his ability.

It would be great to see him get a goal to finish off the campaign today.

Earlier this season

Liverpool had to come from behind to beat Newcastle when the two teams last faced off in September.

Jetro Willems, whose loan spell has now ended, brilliantly fired the Magpies in front, but a Sadio Mane double and a delightful Mohamed Salah effort secured the three points for the Reds.

15:132 months ago

More records to be broken?

Liverpool currently sit on 96 points, one less than the tally they accumulated last season. Three points today would see the reds surpass their highest ever Premier League points tally, accumulating the second highest total in the leagues history.

Five changes for the champions today from their 5-3 win against Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Liverpool team news

There are no fresh injury fears for the champions.

Newly-crowned Footballer of the Year Jordan Henderson remains out with his serious knee injury, joining Joel Matip (foot) on the sidelines.

Will Klopp hand outings to youngsters like Neco Williams, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott?

Newcastle team news

The hosts have something of a defensive injury crisis to contend with.

Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark (both ankle), Fabian Schar (shoulder) and Florian Lejeune (thigh) have all been ruled out.

Bruce deployed Emil Krafth and Danny Rose as makeshift centre-backs either side of Federico Fernandez at Brighton, but now even Krafth is a doubt after hurting his ankle.

Further forward, Isaac Hayden and Sean Longstaff will be assessed for hamstring injuries.

Another hangover for Liverpool?

Will the celebrations which followed their coronation on Wednesday night take their toll on Liverpool here?

It was suggested that concentration levels wavered in the days after they were confirmed as champions in late June, culminating in a heavy defeat against runners-up City.

“I hope that they've been partying for three nights after they lifted the trophy and I hope there's a few of them who are worse for wear!” Steve Bruce says.

“Knowing their professionalism, I don't think they will be.”

Toon’s tricky restart

Newcastle have only managed to win two of their nine matches since the season got back underway last month.

And in their last five, they have picked up only two points from a possible 15, drawing 0-0 at Brighton most recently.

With a takeover potentially looming, masterminding a triumph against the champions before the season comes to an end could significantly boost faith in Steve Bruce.

What’s left to play for?

While the battle for Champions League football and Premier League survival dominates the final day headlines, the fate of these sides has already been decided.

Newcastle will wind up in a respectable lower mid-table slot. They’ll have to win to guarantee 13th with Crystal Palace, who host Tottenham, two points behind.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are gunning for an all-time record points tally of 99 points and a record-equalling 32nd win of the campaign.
