FT: Everton 1-1 Crystal Palace

It was Richarlison's wastefulness in the first half that condemned Everton to a difficult second half, where Batshuayi played the role of an inspired substitute looking to prove a point.

This evening served as a massive blow to Ancelotti's pledge for European football next season. After results around them went in their favour, their game against a palace team playing for nothing was the perfect opportunity to capitalise.

Instead, they capitulated under the pressure of the race for Europe.

As for Palace, they can take a lot of positive from this performance. Despite the constant barrage of attacks, they stayed composed, fighting on all fronts until the final whistle.

Tonight, resilience conquered ability.

90+1' End to end football

Neither team looks content with the one point as both continue to look for the winner in the dying embers. A shot from Mateta troubled Olsen but Palace remain the most fervent.

What a weekend for Liverpool fans

Worst title defence ever?

This weekend has gone in the favour of the red side of Mersey this weekend thus far. Chelsea and Leicester have dropped points and Everton are on course to continue the trend.

A wasteful evening from Calvert-Lewin may condemn the Toffee's future aspirations to Europa League football at best.

86' Goal for Batshuayi!!!

A crucial goal in the swing of the European places.

Michael Keane was caught ball watching as Batshuayi propelled into the box and drilled a shot into the bottom left corner. His performances haven't warranted a start under Hodgson but tonight's goal is of huge significance.

The last roll of the dice for Hodgson in an attacking perspective has paid off.

83' Final Substitution for Palace

Michy Batshuayi has seven minutes to prove he can be trusted with the task of carrying the Eagles' attacking proposition to the next level.

He replaces Jordan Ayew.

80' Another one goes begging for Richarlison

Everton have found the most joy down the Palace right, having accrued 41% of their attacks concentrated on that flank. Also, it was the same flank that the goal came about.

Lucas Digne floated another ball in for Richarlison but his scuffed shot isn't converted.

19:3815 days ago

77' Substitution for both sides

Jean-Phillipe Mateta comes on for Christian Benteke. The striker's last and only Premier League goal came in a dramatic win over Brighton a month back.

James Rodriguez comes off after doing well to last almost 80 minutes. The goalscorer is replaced by Gbamin.

19:3615 days ago

74' Eze playing in deeper role

Strange decision from Hodgson as it looks as though Eze is sitting deeper since the substitution. Considering he's had the two best chances for the Eagles, it seems a bizarre alteration to the system.

In the midst of this realisation, Ben Godfrey has come on for a straight swap in place of the architect of their opener, Seamus Coleman.

67' Substitution for Palace

Jeffrey Schlupp comes on in place of Jairo Riedewald after receiving some late instructions from Ray Lewington.

65' Everton look comfortable

Other than the rocket of a shot that was directed towards Olsen's goal from Eze, Everton have looked steadfast since the opener.

They're moving the ball well whilst limiting the space behind them.

A cardinal asset under the reign of Carlo Ancelotti

58' Palace almost dead and buried

Richarlison threads a lovely weighted ball into Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Vincente Guiata is lifts an arm out to stop the Englishman bringing his Premier League tally closer to that 20-goal mark.

A save at point blank range denies Everton doubling their lead just a matter of minutes after their opener.

56' Goal! James Rodriguez!

James Rodriguez marks his return to the team with a goal as he was alive to the situation.

Seamus Coleman picks up a scramble in the box, rolls it out to James, who was stood just outside the box. The Colombian drilled his shot into the bottom right corner.

Finally, Everton take a chance!

52' Almost in from Sigurdsson

A cross was dealt with in the visitor's box from Gary Cahill but the clearance fell to Sigurdsson, whose deflected shot almost found the net, evading the position of Guaita.

The following corner flew across the box, missing the heads of Richarlison and Mina's heads.

50' Bright start to proceedings for Palace

The Eagles have found themselves in good positions early in the second half. However, Everton have got bodies around the ball, restricting the visitors freedom to play with free-flow like they did in the first-half.

Palace moved the ball across the box to find Van Aanholt's shot that went wildly off target.

45' Second half is underway!

The ball is rolling for the second half.

Everton need to dig deep to find a goal, but will Hodgson's half-time team talk organise Palace's defence enough to see the game through?

Where do Everton need to improve?

The blue half of Mersey had a fair few chances to break the deadlock in the first 45 minutes. Despite this, the movement in midfield is poor.

James Rodriguez has been exquisite as ever with his expansive passes. But, Everton failed to complete a single take-on in the first half, epitomising their lack of surges forward.

They really need to offer more going forward in the form of midfield. Palace are sat deep, so a player in the Everton ranks needs to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

Half-time: Everton 0-0 Crystal Palace

Everton have had the best chances of the first half, with Richarlison in the thick of every attack. However, the Brazilian was unable to convert, resulting in a frustrating performance from the Toffees, who must feel that a win is the only outcome they'd accept.

The Eagles have looked sharp in attack, often leaving themselves open on the break. However, Hodgson will be the happier of the two coaches at half-time. They haven't found too many clear-cut oppourtunities but they can expect their slick football to harvest a few in the second-half.

44' It's that man again

Patrick Van Aanholt played everyon onside from a dead-ball situation, giving the Everton players the license to step forward.

It was Richarlison who rose highest to head the ball towards goal but it went just over.

Two additional minutes of football at the end of the half.

41' Not bad from Richarlison

After quarrels around who should take the setpiece, Richarlison's tunnel vision didn't provide a goal for the home side.

Despite this, the shot, which dipped just over the top right corner of the crossbar, was a good one.

It has been the Brazilian that has found the best chances of the half.

40' Free-kick for Everton

Kouyate has a nibble at Richarlison, handing Everton a free-kick on the left edge of the box. Real chance here...

34' Crystal Palace or Brazil?

The amount of flicks and twists we've seen in the attacking transitions from Palace this evening, you would have thought this was a skill show!

Christian Benteke looks nimble... somehow. Meanwhile, Eze and Zaha look fleet-footed as ever.

Nothing to show for it yet though, time will tell whether Palace's Brazilian linkup play can be turned into Brazilian results.

30' Subsitution for Everton

Gbamin will have to wait a little longer for first-team football...

The injured Andre Gomes comes off for Gylfi Sigurdsson.

18:3015 days ago

26' There has to be goals

I refuse to believe this game will follow in the usual footsteps of a Palace game. both teams look to press one another, it almost feels as both sides have points to prove.

You wouldn't have guessed Crystal Palace are out of the relegation zone, they are playing with a free-flowing grace thus far.

18:2615 days ago

22' Everton squander another chance

Since it was mentioned about Everton looking sluggish, they have started to turn the cogs a lot faster. Ayew became the architect of Palace's downfalls as his slaleming run was thwarted by a man in blue.

Richarlison swivveled from left to right before finessing a shot into the bottom right of Guaita's goal. His shot was parried and the rebound was smothered.

18:2215 days ago

19' Shot from Eze saved!

Eberechi Eze stood three Everton defenders up, played a one-two with Jordan Ayew and took a low-driven shot into the near post. Robin Olsen saved easily.

An Everton counterattack followed but nothing came of it, thankfully for the visitors, who have had a few scares now after attacks of their own.

18:1915 days ago

16' Eagles look quicker off the mark

Yes, Everton have the possession. That being said, when Palace do get on the ball, they look a lot quicker.

There's been a few times now where Eze has got on the ball and propelled forward, giving Everton something to think about.

Everton, on the other hand, look sluggish. They need to convert their possession into opportunities, Hodgon's system means the Toffees are playing into their hands.

18:1715 days ago

12' Lucas Digne's crosses and James' switches of play might be crucial

Crystal Palace are sat deep and narrow, restricting the amount of space that Everton have to Manoeuvre. The Toffees best chances will come with width.

James Rodriguez has the vision in his armoury to seek the runs of Everton's wide men, a potentially perfect gameplan for the aerial prowess of Calvert Lewin.

18:0915 days ago

7' Chance for Everton

The flag did go up so the attack may just have been academic. However, a real opportunity for Richarlison to score.

Instead, the Brazilian tried to square it to Calvert Lewin, who failed to capitalise on the break.

After starting so brightly, all of Palace's early work could have been undone by Milivojevic, who made the error to allow a counterattack.

5' Crystal Palace moving the ball well

Encouraging signs for the Eagles in the first few passages of play as they play their way out of the high Everton Press.

Quick combination play between Zaha and Benteke came to nothing has the Merseysiders got enough players around the ball.

An opportunity for Everton to capitalise

This weekend of dramatic Premier League football saw top four candidates Chelsea and Leicester City drop points. West Ham, who currently sit just above Everton, also face a tough trip to Molineux later this evening. Everton, therefore, will look to capitalise on their rivals downfalls this Easter, seeking a place in the top four.
