INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Indiana Pacers star Paul George has voiced his frustration with playing the power forward position. The pace-and-space style of play that the Pacers have decided to adopt appears to be in a rough adjustment stage. George is not completely on board with this new style change, which means that the Pacers could end up going back to a traditional style of play.

Paul George addressed his stance on playing the power forward position with the media after this game (via Candance Buckner):

"I don’t know if I’m cut out for a four spot. Defensively, it’s rough. It’s rough. It’s an adjustment because I’m not used to doing some of the things out there. It’s not just myself. The four other guys out there, it’s an adjustment for them. We’re all talking a couple other guys are uncomfortable with how we’re going to run it. It’s new to everyone. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around it.

"Defensively, it's rough, it's rough. It's an adjustment because I'm not used to doing some of the things out there. I mean, I'm exerting more energy from having to hedge on a ball screen, get back down low to a shot going up, now having to box out. So I don't know, I don't know.

“Offensively, I’m comfortable and confident playing with a 3 guarding me or a 4 guarding me. The fact of me having a big on me doesn’t change my mindset or make me think it’s any easier, offensively. It’s almost like I’m doing more, because I know I have the mismatch.

“Playing the 3 spot, I always had the luxury of helping the bigs rebound. [The bigs] do so well battling down low, and I’m able to come and jump and get those rebounds by being athletic. Can’t do that at the 4 spot. These guys are strong and big. It’s almost like I’m just trying to keep them on my back, but they got me in size. That’s the toughest part.

"Honestly, I'd rather build on what we're going to do going into the season. We're playing around with this style now and trying to figure things out but it's not just myself. The four other guys out there, it was an adjustment for them. We're all talking, a couple other guys are uncomfortable with how we're going to run it and things like that. It's new to everyone. It's new to everybody. This is what preseason's for, it's game one, we've just got to build off it.

"I mean, you put four wings out there. At times we’re going to kick some ass. We’re going to look good at times. But then you know there’s going to be times when it’s not going to look so good.

"“I don’t want to put a shadow over it, it’s only game one. It’s new to everybody … just got to see where we go from here.”

Paul George clarified on Monday that he is fully on board with the Pacers. "It's no complaint. I gave my opinion." George made it clear that he will do whatever it is that the Pacers ask him to do, but he doesn't feel like his talents are best suited for the power forward position. It sounds like George is most comfortable with a traditional power forward like Jordan Hill or Lavoy Allen starting alongside him, which could end up being their primary lineup.

The Pacers focused on their defensive rotations in Monday's practice, which could help clear up some of George's concerns regarding small ball. Again, it remains to be seen whether or not the team wants to fully adopt this style as their primary style. It could end up being a situational style whenever an opposing team uses that same style.

It appears that the Pacers will continue to experiment with this style of play throughout the preseason, which should determine how much they will use it during the season. The ultimate prediction of this author is that the Pacers end up using small ball situationally and then start either Jordan Hill or Lavoy Allen at power forward. It is what George wants, and apparently it's what a majority of the players want as well. It is good to know that George is on board with whatever the team decides to do, but at least his opinion has been made clear regarding this situation.
