Carolina Panthers Extend Greg Olsen's Contract

The Panthers have had to switch up many of Cam Newton's offensive weapons over the past few years, and they did not want to let their Pro Bowl tight end get away as well.

Greg Olsen has been making it look easy as a tight end in the NFL for just about his whole NFL career. But with Ron Rivera as his Head Coach and Cam Newton as his quarterback, he has put up some of his best stats in his career.

Carolina made sure to take advantage of the opportunity to lock up their Pro Bowl tight end before he would have had his contract expire. He would have been entering the final year of his contract, set to earn $5.25 million. But instead, he has 3 additional years on his contract for $22.5 over those 3 years, including a nice fat $12 million signing bonus.

Last year Olsen put up both career highs in receptions with 84, and yards with 1,008. Since joining the Panthers before the 2011 season, he has accumulated 271 receptions for 3,207 yards and 22 touchdowns. Plus, Olsen is not only a receiving tight end, but he is quite balanced and is able to handle all of the blocking assignments for the Panthers rush based schemes.

This surely looks like a brilliant move for the Panthers front office and will give Cam Newton some consistency in his receivers for the next few seasons.
