Just another day to go out and play some football, but all the fans of the Green Bay Packers and the New England Patriots were excited to get their players out on the field and see just how they were growing and developing in training camp. That's largely due to the fact that both Bill Belichick and Mike McCarthy are in systems that love to focus on draft and develop, so unlike many of the preseason games that happened on Thursday night, this game actually should have featured talent up and down the majority of the 90 man roster.

The Packers started out with the ball and had things going strong for a little while, they drove into Patriots territory and then turned the ball over on downs at the 2 yard line as they were stopped on a fourth down attempt. The same thing happened on their next drive as well as the Patriots defense was stopping the Packers on their fourth downs early in the game.

It took a while for New England to get going though, as Tom Brady threw a completion to Brandon Gibson on their second drive of the game, but that was merely their first, first down of the game and then they were punting again just a few plays later.

It was on the next possession that the Packers drove down the field again as Aaron Rodgers and Eddie Lacy were seeing action for the first three drives of the game. The result of the drive was a Mason Crosby chip shot field goal. He made it easily from 25 yards out and the Packers were up 3-0 after the first period.

Jimmy Garappolo finally got his time to shine on the following drive, but after throwing a first down completion to to Josh Boyce. But the limelight was quickly stolen away as Jonas Gray was happy to get his hands on the ball in the backfield. He was able to scamper away for a 55 yard touchdown run and then also ran it in for the two point conversion as well. It happened so quickly that it was hard to believe the score was now 8-3 with the Patriots leading. Overall though Garappolo really struggled overall. He completed just 20 of his 30 pass attempts. Plus, he must have been throwing short as they only got 159 yards on those attempts. He also threw an interception to little known Packers rookie Ladarius Gunter. Gunter played his college ball with the Miami Hurricanes. Back to Garappolo though, as he was also sacked 7 times by the ferocious Packers pass rush.

A few possessions later, Scott Tolzein was driving the Packers down the field and on a fourth and one was able to throw it deep to Packers speedster Jeff Janis for a 26 yard touchdown reception. The Packers decided to attempt the two point conversion, which was an incomplete pass to Myles White. This put the Packers up 9-8.

Stephen Gostkowski was able to put the Patriots ahead with their final score of the game, when he hit one from deep right before the end of the first half. He was able to see the 56 field goal sail through the uprights and that is why the Patriots had originally used their franchise tag on him and then signed him to the extended deal, because he is one of the best in the game still.

Alonzo Harris was the next Packer to score in the game early in the second half after Garappolo's aforementioned interception. He had back to back runs, first for 4 yards, then for 25 yards and the touchdown. The Packers tried going for two again but continued to struggle on the short yardage try as Tolzein threw it incomplete to Ty Montgomery.

Then in the final quarter of the game, Packers rookie Brett Hundley came in and was able to convert a few third downs in order to lead to another Packers score. On a third and ten, he found Larry Pinkard for a 31 yard completion. Then they tried to reconnect on the next third and six, but it fell incomplete. Hundley was aided though by a New England penalty, as Cameron Gordon was called for roughing the passer. Then on third and seven from the New England 10, Hundley found John Crockett for a 10 yard touchdown reception. Mason Crosby finally saw the field again as he hit the Packers first extra point of the game. That would be everything for the scoring as the Packers won the game 22-11.

Matt Blanchard did see the field for the Packers in their final drive of the game, and they drove down the field as they got the ball with just over five and a half minutes left in the game and were in the mode of chewing up the clock. They drove all the way inside the Patriots 10 yard line and simply took a knee to end the game.

Next up for the Packers is a trip to Heinz Field to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, August 23. Meanwhile the Patriots will play the New Orleans Saints in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Saturday, August 22.
