After a topsy-turvy season in our Nation's Capital, the Redskins have won the division after being the most unlikely team to win in the preseason.

It could just be that the Dallas Cowboys have had no luck without any success at quarterback after Tony Romo went down with an injury, and then went down with another injury. It could be that Chip Kelly made some odd off-season moves that didn't make sense to pretty much every football fan in America. Also, it could be that the New York Giants under Head Coach Tom Coughlin simply can't hold onto a fourth quarter lead if their life depended on it. But, the Washington Redskins clinched the NFC East after defeating the Philadelphia Eagles on a special Saturday evening game by a total of 38-24.

Perhaps one of the stranger things is that they have been led at quarterback by someone that most of us would consider an unlikely suspect, in former Michigan State Spartans quarterback Kirk Cousins. Obviously, the last time that the Redskins made it to the playoffs Cousins played a few games that year, but it was also the year the Robert Griffin III won Rookie of the Year and was considered one of the hottest quarterbacks in America before tearing his ACL and going through what was initially called "Operation Patience."

Jay Gruden deserves his fair share of the credit, as they have relied heavily on running backs this year in Matt Jones and Alfred Morris. They also have one star receiver in DeSean Jackson. When you look over the roster and how the team is built on offense, it does strongly feel like it is a bit of the team that Jay Gruden left as a former Offensive Coordinator, the Cincinnati Bengals

Also, a fair deal of credit needs to go to the new General Manager of the Redskins, Scot McCloughan. He had come over after formerly being with the Seattle Seahawks, but his time with the team had come to an end as he had issues with alcohol. Here's hoping that McCloughan is staying clean and is still able to celebrate with the team as they have made the playoffs at his first year at the helm. He will have some decisions to make this off-season as he will have to figure out how much money the team should give to their new quarterback in Kirk Cousins.
