After the third game in a row to go into overtime in the National Football League, the Dallas Cowboys rallied to win against the Philadelphia Eagles with a 29-23 win. Dak Prescott was the winner in the battle of the rookie quarterbacks as he found a way to win it with a game-winning drive in overtime. The Cowboys are now two games ahead in the NFC East with a 6-1 record and look set to stay at the top of the division, especially if they continue to play like this.
The Eagles end the first half on top
Philadelphia opened the scoring in the game tonight as they went down the field in five minutes to pick up a 30 yard field goal by kicker Caleb Sturgis. Dallas stayed hot on their heels though as they took around one minute to answer back with a touchdown. Once in the end zone, Dallas dialed up a quarter back draw that allowed Prescott to run seven yards into the end zone and pick up six points for the home side.
The Eagles were not done and quarter back Carson Wentz led his team down the field for their drive to end with a Ryan Mathews one yard rushing touchdown. It was then the turn of the Eagles defense to make a big play. The Cowboys had succeeded in reaching the red zone again and were looking to strike before the end of the first half. Prescott made an ill-advised throw that was intercepted by line backer Jordan Hicks which let the Eagles go into the locker room at half time with a 13-10 lead.
A fake punt gives the Cowboys a way back into the game
The second half started the same way as the first half had ended, with the Eagles carrying all the momentum. Wentz pushed the Eagles offense through the gears with some great throws, in particular one to wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham for 14 yards to keep the drive going. This drive culminated in a five yard passing touchdown by Wentz to Jordan Matthews, allowing Wentz to set the franchise touchdown record for rookie quarter backs for the Eagles.
The game then turned on its head late in the third quarter. The Cowboys set up to take a punt on a fourth down play and the Eagles bought it. Punter Chris Jones then faked the punt and took of running, gaining 30 yards in the process and putting Dallas in great field position to possibly get a touchdown and bring themselves back into the game. The Cowboys made the most of this opportunity as Prescott found Dez Bryant in the end zone with a jump ball for a 22 yard touchdown play. The momentum had shifted to the Cowboys and they did not let it slip away for the rest of the game.
Dallas win it in OT as Witten makes the big play
After winning the coin toss, the Cowboys decided to get the ball first and try to win the game on their first drive. Using Bryant and Beasley on the edges to keep the driving going, Prescott helped the Dallas offense reach the red zone. During the drive, the Cowboys were faced with a crucial 4th and one that they decided to go for. Prescott kept the ball and his offensive line helped to push him forward to get the first down. After that, it was all about the power running of Elliott who managed to gain crucial yardage to get into the red zone as the Cowboys looked to get the touchdown that would win the game. The initial run by Elliott at to get the touchdown was stopped and it took two Eagles players running into each other to give Jason Witten his first touchdown of the season and the win for the Cowboys.
