More interest in Sunderland youngsters

Following interest already in the window for a number of Sunderland's youth products, more clubs are now looking to Wearside for young talent that they could secure on loan.

Tommy Robson and Mikael Mandron have both caught the eye of Football League clubs and are attracting loan interest, according to the Sunderland Echo.

A number of teams in both England and Scotland have already expressed interest in some of Wearside's promising young players this summer, with Mandron already having turned heads at Partick Thistle in the Scottish Premiership, and now Robson is also believed to be highly rated outside of Sunderland.

Wigan want Robson

Young left-back Robson is understood to be a target for Wigan Athletic, the recently-relegated side looking to bolster their squad in order to achieve an immediate return to the Championship this season.

The 19-year-old defender has trained with Sunderland's first team regularly in the last 12 months, but is yet to break into the side, with Patrick van Aanholt holding down his position in the starting line-up.

The Dutchman put on a terrible performance in the 4-2 defeat to Leicester City on Saturday, but it seems that his place in the team remains safe with the Black Cats willing to loan out Robson, as opposed to letting him fight for some minutes game time.

Wigan sent scouts to watch the teenager for the under-21s at the weekend as they beat Norwich City 3-1, and they are now believed to be interested in enquiring about his availability on loan.

Mandron attracting interest from Northampton

Mandron bagged a brace for the under-21s in that game on Sunday against the Canaries, and he is believed to be a target for Northampton Town of League Two.

The striker has failed to make an impact in the Football League in loan spells at Shrewsbury Town and Fleetwood Town, but with Lee Congerton having assumed the role of sporting director since then, it is believed that he will be far more selective over the goal-scorer's destination on loan in order to ensure that the team on the other end of the deal get the best out of Mandron.

Yet, Northampton could face competition from Scottish outfit Partick Thistle, who are also believed to be interested in taking the player on loan.

Watmore and Beadling to stay

Two other youngsters who have been wanted men in the loan market this summer are winger Duncan Watmore and defender Tom Beadling, but Sunderland want them to stay on Wearside instead as they believe they have a chance of breaking in the first team.

Both have been told they could earn chances in Dick Advocaat's side, and the likelihood of this has increased recently too with bad situations favouring them.

The Black Cats' diabolic defensive showing against Leicester on the opening day of the season could see their Dutch manager turn to someone like Beadling to solve problems, especially if he impresses in competitions like the League Cup, whilst an injury to Adam Johnson, which will keep him out for at least two months, has opened the door for Watmore to push into the first team.
