Manchester United’s £27 million summer acquisition Memphis Depay has rubbished reports stating that Ryan Giggs reprimanded him due to his poor behavior.

The 21-year-old Dutch winger has had an underwhelming start to life in a United shirt, after initially showing promise. As a result, he has failed to cement a spot in manager Louis van Gaal’s starting eleven.

Additionally, there were reports that concerned with the youngster’s controversial lifestyle, United’s assistant manager Giggs reprimanded him and told him to conduct himself in a better manner.

However, in an exclusive interview with Algemeen Dagblad in his home country, Depay rubbished all of these talks.

"The funny thing is, since I came to England, I've only been out one time. One time!" Memphis said.

Depay reveals he has barely gone out since joining United

"But recently I read that Ryan Giggs has accosted me about my reputation as a 'party-boy' and stuff. It's total nonsense! Completely made up!"

He added: "Often I think: 'Just let me do this. Let me wear the clothes I want to wear.' Why is everyone making such a big deal out of that? What is this all about? Just let me. I'm also just a 21-year-old boy.

"Why should I adjust? Some people collect stamps; I like fashion, discovering nice new things. I feel good about doing that. If I were to put on what you wanted me to put on, I wouldn't be myself anymore."

Memphis working hard to make United career a success

Last month, Depay spoke about how helpful and influential the legendary United winger has been since the time he arrived at Old Trafford. He gave him tips to help him refine his game and make it better suited to the Premier League.

"I think every young player goes through things, but I keep training and enjoy the training sessions," Depay said.

United are in a tricky spell at the moment, having failed to win in their last six matches in all competitions, losing the last three. Manager Louis van Gaal is rumoured to be close to being sacked, but denied those reports, walking out of his press conference on Saturday after asking for an apology from the reporters in the room.

United face Stoke City on Boxing Day, hoping for a win to move them back into the top four.
