The Women's Alpine Skiing World Cup continued in Cortina d'Ampezzo with a super-G on Sunday.

Starting with the bib No. 3, Stacey Cook of the USA was the earliest starter to finish the race in the top 10. Claiming the lead after her run, she was eventually eighth in the final results.

Better known as a giant slalom specialist, Italy's Federica Brignone (bib No. 8) was already 0.31 seconds ahead of Cook at the third split, yet couldn't match Cook's strong finish and went into second place, 0.16 seconds behind. In the final results, her run was good enough for the ninth place.

Sweden's Kajsa Kling started after Brignone. Kling claimed the lead from Cook by 0.40 seconds, and kept the position until the top group with the bibs No. 16 to 22 had their runs. Italy's Francesca Marsaglia with the bib No. 14 was just 0.02 seconds behind Kling's time at the third split; however, her run ended soon after that when she missed the racing line, crashing a gate.

Starting with the bib No. 17, Austria's Cornelia Hütter was the first to beat Kling's time, taking the lead by 0.28 seconds. However, her lead was short-lived. Unlucky with wind in Saturday's downhill, Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein beat Hütter's time by 0.50 seconds.

That still wasn't enough for Weirather to claim her first win of the season. Starting after her, Lindsey Vonn of the USA beat the lead time by 0.69 seconds.

After Vonn it was the overall World Cup leader Lara Gut at the start gate. The Swiss couldn't match the time of Vonn, nor the times of Weirather and Hütter, but crossed the finish line only in fourth place (1.31 seconds from lead), meaning she would lose the overall points lead to Vonn.

One more skier extended the points gap between Vonn and Gut. Losing 1.15 seconds to Vonn, Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany beat Hütter for the third place, her first podium finish in super-G this season.

A notable performance from the later starters was Switzerland's Corinne Suter with the bib No. 25 going into seventh place, between Kling and Cook. Also Austria's Stephanie Venier with the bib No. 29 was able to finish inside the top 10, exactly in 10th place.

Lindsey Vonn scored 100 points for the win. She was trailing Lara Gut by 10 points in the overall World Cup before the super-G race, yet with Gut scoring 45 points for the fifth place, Vonn leads now the overall standings by 45 points. The Swedish technical specialist Frida Hansdotter is in third place, 239 points behind Vonn and 81 points ahead of the fourth-placed Viktoria Rebensburg.

In the super-G World Cup, Vonn leads with a clean record of three wins and 300 points. Cornelia Hütter is in second place, 130 points behind Vonn and nine points ahead of the third-placed Lara Gut.

Women's World Cup continues on January 30-31 with a giant slalom and a slalom in Maribor.
