Cuneo, capital of the province of Granda, is located on a plateau that widens and opens out onto the majestic mountain range of the southwestern Alps. Completely immersed in the nature of the River Park by which it is surrounded, it has earned the nickname of Green Capital of Piedmont.

Founded in medieval times (1198), it is a welcoming and hospitable city, with over 8 km of arcades, a long open-air shopping center divided between the old town and the new town. Joining the two souls is the elegant Piazza Galimberti, surrounded by neoclassical buildings, which keeps alive the memory of the Resistance and the Gold Medal of which the city can boast.

Cuneo, a typical mountain town, is the ideal starting point for discovering the Maritime Alps, with hiking, climbing, mountaineering, mountain biking and skiing activities.

There are magical places where everything seems possible and more. Sanremo is one of them: a city of music and flowers located in the heart of the Ligurian Riviera. The sun and the mild climate allow you to live it to the fullest and discover it in every season of the year. Sanremo is synonymous with sea and beaches that merge in a romantic embrace, with the bike path that accompanies the coastline along its entire length, like an attentive guardian. Sanremo is culture and traditions that reveal themselves step by step. It is a place to practice outdoor sports, by the sea or in the mountains. Sanremo is synonymous with shopping, with its stores and boutiques, but also with music and entertainment. Sanremo is gourmet, with its Mediterranean cuisine that allows you to discover the simplest and truest flavors that only nature can offer.

Route of the stage

This stage will be short compared to the last two we had, only 150km separates us from the start and finish line.

If nothing strange happens, the finish will be massive and with a sprint for the sprinters. The big question mark of the day revolves around the Colle di Nava. It reaches the top with 96 kilometers, 10.1 kilometers at 6.8%, a climb where, if the pace is quickened, the sprinters will suffer.

We will have 2 intermediate sprints, the first at 44.2 kilometers from the start and the second at 112.5. We will also have a third category mountain prize at 54.6km.

Winner of the previous stage

Great breakaway of many men, but that was reduced to 3 riders who defended until the end and managed to reach a sprint where Stefano Oldani took the victory and won for the first time in a grand tour.

The stage had a very technical finish, they waited almost until the end, none wanted to give advantage, but in the end Oldani had more resistance and managed to take advantage a few meters from the finish line and therefore took the win in this stage 12 of the Giro 2022.
