Last year's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie Of The Year, Ricky Stenhouse Jr in the #17, topped the second and final practice session at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Stenhouse Jr posted a time of 14.64 seconds, a speed of 131.012mph with seven minutes to go in the session to go to the point.

The night race at Bristol has a different set-up to other races as practice concludes before qualifying begins, which means teams must get the right set-up on their cars in the final practice.

Session one of practice for the Sprint Cup Series teams was two hours long and in the first hour rookie Kyle Larson was top for most of it with a 14.915 second lap, a speed of 128.649mph.

David Stremme in the #33 had trouble with just over an hour to go when the throttle had open and he hit the outside wall into turn three.

The last 40 minutes saw different drivers jumping to the point: Firstly Matt Kenseth in the #20 posted a 14.914 with 47 minutes left, with just 19 minutes to go Kevin Harvick in the #4 did a 14.703, then Denny Hamlin in the #11 went quickest with a 14.697 and finally Larson was back top with five minutes left after a 14.638.

Seven drivers in the first session went quicker than the old qualifying track record set by Hamlin last year and it looks like qualifying later today will be very quick.

The second and final 50 minute session began with Jeff Burton, who is subbing for Tony Stewart in the #14, be quickest five minutes in with a 15.200 and a speed of 126.237mph.

At the same five minute point there was a buzzard caution as Slugger Labbys notebook, Paul Menards crew chief, was left on the #27 and went all over the track.

When the green flag was back out Kenseth went quickest in the #20 with a 15.14 and a speed of 126.679mph after eight minutes.

There was the second red flag of the session after ten minutes when a piece of metal came off one of the cars and came to a stop on the front straight.

As the green flag came back out once again the speeds picked up as some teams went to qualifying trim, including rookie Larson who went top with a speed of 130.097mph on his first three lap run.

With half an hour to go Larson, Stenhouse Jr, Kahne, Ambrose and Johnson made up the top five on the chart as 35 cars had made a run in this session, but only Larson was in the 130mph bracket.

At the half way point Johnson jumped to the point with a 14.69 a speed of 130.593mph. The top five had a slightly different look at this point: Johnson, Larson, Stenhouse Jr, Kahne and Ambrose as 37 cars had now been out.

There were 22 minutes to go when Gordon went top with a 14.73 a speed of 130.504mph in the #24.

With 15 minutes to to in the final practice Johnson, Gordon, Larson, Kahne and Stenhouse Jr were the top five.

Over the next five minutes there were a number of changes at the top of the board: First Kahne in the #5 posted a 14.68 a speed of 130.619. Then Larson went back to the top with a 14.67 a speed of 130.762mph.

After Larson, Almirola in the #43 went top with a 14.67 a speed of 130.780mph to put the rookie in 2nd, but not for long as Kahne went back to the top with a 14.662 a speed of 130.869mph.

With three minutes left Johnson was back inside the top five with a 131.012mph lap speed to go 2nd.

There was almost big trouble with under a minute to go, as teams went to qualifying trim, when Vickers in the #55 slowed to pit and Larson along with Keselowski who were behind weren't expecting it and had to slow which stacked them up.

As the red and black flag came out to end the session Stenhouse Jr in the #17 topped the second and final practice session as Johnson, Kahne, Almirola and Larson rounded out the top five.
