Next stage
The second stage of the Critérium Dauphiné brings a fairly quiet course if the favorites decide to save their efforts for the following days. First there will be two third category passes, the Côte de Désaignes and the Côte de Sain-Agrève; with 60 kilometers to go they will cross the second category Col de Mézilhac; then the intermediate sprint at Le Gerbier De Jonc and finally they will pass with 9 kilometers to go over the Côte de Rohac, to reach the finish line after the descent of this one and a climb that they will find a couple of kilometers before.

Pierre Rolland accelerated the pace and took the two points for first place on the last mountain pass of the day. Laurens Huys crossed second and Maxime Bouet was left to be caught by the peloton. 30 seconds difference!
Escapees of the day
Laurens Huys (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux), Maxime Bouet (Arkea-Samsic) and Pierre Rolland (B&B Hotels-KTM) are the three riders leading the race. In fact, it was a long breakaway, because it happened from the first mountain pass, which was within the first 20 kilometers of the day.
There have also been abandons
Niklas Märkl (Team DSM) and Imanol Erviti (Movistar) were the first two riders to abandon the race.
Carreer status now
There are 50 kilometers to go to the finish. Most of the mountain prizes have already been contested, plus the intermediate sprint. There is a breakaway of three riders, who are just over two minutes ahead of the rest of the peloton.

Beauchastel
Beauchastel is a village overlooking the confluence of the Rhône and Eyrieux rivers. After passing by the theatre, which hosts concerts and shows throughout the summer, visitors will enjoy a multitude of discoveries as they walk through its narrow streets graced since 1905 by the outsider art of sculpture Alphonse Gurlhie. Nearby, the Dolce Via, reserved for cyclists and walkers, will allow you to discover the Ardèche in a quirky way along a cycling route ideal for a family outing which will take you from one bank of the river to the other. As for the ViaRhôna, it provides tourists on two wheels a variety of panoramas through the emblematic landscapes of vineyards, ruins of castles, fields of lavender or olive trees, and offers delicious breaks to sample local culinary specialities. As a host to the Critérium du Dauphiné, Beauchastel confirms its commitment to cycling, following the passage of Paris-Nice and the regular visits made by the women’s race TCFIA (Tour cycliste féminin international de l'Ardèche).
La Voulte-sur-Rhône
La Voulte-sur-Rhône is the administrative centre of an administrative district with approximately 5,000 inhabitants, and has developed at the foot of the hills on the right bank of the Rhône river. The castle overlooking the town was built on a rocky outcrop between the 12th and 14th centuries, with its fortified centre forming the heart of the old village. Sport has always occupied an important place in the history of the town, with the highlight quite naturally being the unforgettable crowning of the town’s rugby union team as French champions in 1970. Certified as a 2-star graded ‘active and sporty town’ in 2019, La Voulte-sur-Rhône has put in place a dynamic and determined sports policy. As a gateway to two gentle mobility networks, the Dolce Via and ViaRhôna, the town has chosen to give pride of place to events promoting “leisure cycling”, whilst also playing a full part in the cycling development policy implemented by the Ardèche department authorities
