Olympiakos are reportedly ready to bring Kevin Mirallas back to the club after rumours surfaced in the Greek media this week.
The winger spent two years at the Greek champions between 2010 and 2012 and would be open to a return to the club and the country which he calls his “second home”.
Belgian has desire to play Champions League football
Mirallas has been firm in his stance that he wants to play in the Champions League again. He spoke about it in January after reported interest from Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid, but neither team were able to finalise a bid.
The Olympiakos link is the second, in what could be a long summer of rumours involving the Belgian international. Last week reports surfaced suggesting that AS Monaco could be preparing to make a move for the Belgian international.
Everton would be able to command a good transfer fee for Mirallas, who turns 28 this year. The Toffee's may be unwilling to sell the winger, who is a fan favourite at Goodison Park but with reported fees in the region of £15million pounds, Everton’s resolve could be tested.
The reported price would also put Olympiakos in a difficult position. Mirallas is rumoured to be one of Everton’s top earners and with the Greek economy, Olympiakos may have difficulty shelling out such a lofty amount on one player.
Mirallas has 12 months to run on his contract
Mirallas has 12 months left on his current contract, but Everton do have an option to extend that by an additional 12 months.
With Gerard Deulofeu seemingly on his way back to Goodison Park, Roberto Martinez may take the chance to cash in on Mirallas and reinvest the money in other areas of the squad, most notably in defence - where he is reportedly interested in Scott Dann from Crystal Palace.
Everton would miss a player of Mirallas’ talent and goal scoring ability but with him closing in on turning 30, a transfer fee of £15million may be a difficult one to turn down.
They would be able to focuse that money on reported targets such as Shinji Kagawa and Dmitri Payet, as the blues look set to challenge for European football again next season.
